He’ll always be the voice of Batman to me in the same way that Mark Hamill is the voice of the Joker.
Say what you will about it overall, I thought it was really cool to see Conroy as a live action Bruce Wayne in the Arrowverse crossover. He deserved at least one appearance like that

that's wild. this is an instance where it never really mattered and the best guy got the job.
good luck at the great batcave in the sky Mr. Conroy.
ETA: you should have gone away with the girl in Mask of the Phantasm. i know you have a no killing rule, but that woman would have made you a happy man.

Dang. The definitive Batman.

Conroy on Murphy Brown.
Oddly enough, whereas a lot of voice actors are little too-good-to-be-true (i.e. voice doesn't match the physique), Conroy actually looks like he could have been cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman (in live-action, I mean).

Welcome to the M/TV Board.
Sad state of affairs how far the board has fallen.
Thankfully there's still enough of the decent folks that it hasn't descended into Poliboard/O-T Lounge territory.

I think he actually auditioned for the original Burton one

I think you might be thinking of Kevin Costner.
(In 1988 Costner probably didn't even have to audition for it. He probably got the first offer and rejected it.)
(For what it's worth, I wouldn't have anybody else but Keaton in the Burton movie, and I'm kinda partial to Kilmer's performance. Not that Kilmer did an excellent job, but again, Forever worked better with him. But Conroy would have been a pretty solid choice for a mid-90s live-action Batman TV series, a la Lois & Clark: The Adventures of Superman.)

Whenever I read a Batman comic I hear his voice.

The best Batman ever. BTAS is hands down my favorite cartoon ever.

Just heard this. He was the greatest Batman in one of the greatest animated series of all time.

Not sure but maybe it was just pushed more when he wrote about it this year for some DC Pride deal, but it was mentioned back in a 2016 article and not like it was an announcement of coming out but like it was known.

In the late 1980s, his stage career culminated with a Broadway production of “Eastern Standard,” in which he played a TV producer secretly living with AIDS.
“I went to so many funerals that I felt such a sense of obligation to do it right,” said Mr. Conroy, who is gay. During a moment alone onstage, he would break down. “Every night I would just wail, feeling all the pain. I couldn’t not feel it. It was a scream of, ‘Look what’s happening to us! Help!’”

We met him a few years back. 5 voices from batman were at a convention in Columbia. They were all great in person.

He and Hamill are both so good in the Arkham games. He even elevates the crappy entries in that franchise because he is Batman. RIP

Yeah, I had no idea Kevin Conroy was gay. He was definitely the top with how manly he was.

I wouldn’t say that. I think he’s just a huge part of a lot of our childhoods and wasn’t a complete dick/activist.
See George Takei.
I rolls my eyes at most right wing outrage and trolling, but a lot of it is merited. Just not 50 threads worth.

Kevin Conroy was/is my and many of the people my age’s (30) Batman. He was a seminal part of our childhood and for a lot of us, the first Batman, even before watching 1989 Batman. According to my mom, Mask of the Phantasm was like the first movie I ever really watched when I was like 2 or 3.
The fact he followed up the animated series with Justice League/Batman Beyond and then with the Arkham games with Hamill just capped off his legacy as THE Batman. This fricking sucks, but I’m glad we had and will continue to have all the work he did. Hell I watched BTAS until my 10 month old and I fell asleep last night.
ETA: like someone else said, when I watch another Batman animated movie or read a comic I’ll always imagine Conroy’s voice.
