Doing the rounds for "The Martian," the director recently spoke to German site FilmFutter and revealed "Prometheus" has its own story to tell before it eventually ties into the movie that started it all. "...it won’t be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the 'Alien' franchise," he said.

No way they make a 3rd and 4th one after the disaster the 1st one was and the 2nd will be.

Now - we just have to tie it all back to Blade Runner...

I wonder if he'll live long to make that many. He's getting kinda old. At least we know Prometheus 2 is up next for him.

...and then we have to connect it back to Predator, possibly the Terminator franchise (although, technically James Cameron already did this in Aliens).

Speaking of Aliens, I just recently bought the Blue Ray Anniversary Edition of Aliens and along with the theatrical cut, it has a directors cut that includes some additional footage that's pretty cool. It goes in to more detail on how the colonists found the Space Jockey's ship, more insight in to Ripley's relationship with her daughter, and how it effects her feelings towards Newt.
If you love the movie as much as I do, check it out.

I'll be tuned in for the next Prometheus for sure. The first one was pretty awesome IMO (and I'm not saying that in jest either). I know people love to bash on it and cry that it didn't make sense, but it really did make plenty of sense IMO.

I didn't even realize that they were going ahead with the second. Will watch with drastically reduced expectations.

I really don't have a problem with the fact that Prometheus and Alien exist in the same cinematic universe, with occasional references between the two. But, I don't want Ridley to try to directly connect (or shoehorn) the Prometheus films with these upcoming Alien films that have been rumored.

Yep.
People just shite on it because it didn't live up to Alien. Completely different movie altogether.
Removing the masterpiece Alien from the equation and just watching it based purely on a stand-alone Sci-fi movie, I loved it.
Now I didn't love it or really even like it the first time I watched it, but after a couple of re-watches I grew to love it. Just the total feel of the movie.
And you can catch certain Alien-themed parts in movie. The part when the old man is talking to them in the hologram, they are playing the Alien music in the background.

I'm not an Alien geek though.

There's little question that Predator and Alien are in the same cinematic universe because of the crossover film. Ridley has already implicitly linked Prometheus to Blade Runner - but explicit would be nice.
THEN, we have to figure out how Terminator fits in. Probably will require some sort of agreement between the IP holders, Ridley AND Cameron, although none of them are allergic to money.
