The problem with the prequels was the dialogue.
The framework was there in the prequels and the story is very coherent, coherent enough that it translated really well into the original trilogy. It just needed better execution and much more competent screen writing with better dialogue.
With that said, the prequels are absolutely amazing at world building and lore building and spawned new spin offs and other franchises. The sequels have no capability of doing that and that's why they failed and should be removed from canon.

The ST’s biggest sins were shitting all over Luke and dismissing everything sacrificed and accomplished by everyone in the OT by bringing back Sidious.
There are no words for how bad TLJ is. IMO, it’s the worst movie ever made. It was awful independently, disrespectful to the saga, and it left ROS without a compelling storyline. It’s like a relay runner who not only ran a slow leg but fricked up the exchange to the next runner too. ROS had no chance to save the ST. That’s how bad TLJ was.
A big reason why people like Rogue One is because they got Vader right. If TLJ had made Luke the wise, arse kicking Jedi Master you would expect the movie would have been a lot better. Luke was supposed to be the disciplined Skywalker who (unlike his father) fulfilled his potential.

The Clone Wars timeline (between Episodes 2-3) should've been the REAL Episode 2 movie.
AOTC (re-written and re-authored) should've been Episode 1.
Season 7 Clone Wars with ROTS in parallel would've made for an awesome movie, even though ROTS by itself is already very good.

If they're going to bring Sidious back, they should've brought Anakin back as well. I don't care how they do that as long as it's believable.
Star Wars at its core is a story about Anakin Skywalker and his fall to the darkness and then return to the light and the sequels would've tracked with that with an Anakin vs Sidious battle.
Imagine a sequel trilogy with an older clone wars version of Anakin with a balanced view of the force, the light and dark side and being 100% aware of Palpatine's lies and manipulation, how he took Padme and his children away from him and resisting the temptation of his rage in Palpatine trying to seduce his grandson to the dark side and doing everything he could with Luke to prevent that.
It would've been a great trilogy.

The dialogue is terrible and an inordinate number of the scenes are people walking and talking in hallways to mask the fact that the entire set was CGI.

Shits still shite. The sequels being just as bad didn't suddenly make them better.
That said the eu around the prequels was still alright.

I don't care what anyone says.
Episode III is a legitimately good movie.

The prequels have the be enjoyed for their moments... Anything with Qui-gon, EM doing a spot in impression of AG, the Duel of Fates, Obi storyline with Jango, etc...

quote:Part of the reason is Lucas didn’t direct Empire or RotJ. Kershner and Marquand were able to get good performances out of the actors, it feels noticeably more natural in those films.
Ford, Fisher, and Hamill could make Lucas' terrible dialogue sound okay. The actors couldn't do it in the next trilogy...especially Portman and Christenson. Or maybe it was less noticeable in the original trilogy
That’s not really Lucas’s strong suit (or maybe a stylistic choice), the dialogue in A New Hope can be pretty cringey at times.

Why would you knowingly put yourself through that?

The thing about Sidious is, how the hell do you realistically kill the son of a bitch? In ROTJ he was thrown down a deep shaft and blew up in the core of a spaceship that was then blown up minutes later. If he can survive that, what can't he survive?

Phantom Menace: a boring kids movie filled with wooden acting and a poorly paced uninteresting plot
Attack of the Clones: an overstuffed movie with way too much going on, a decent plot that falls apart roughly halfway through (when Anakin goes to Naboo), looks terrible, written terribly, and acted worse. One of the worst movies of all time.
Revenge of the Sith: the fun kind of bad. It’s poorly acted and often times looks bad, but is incredibly fun. It’s the Con-Air of Star Wars. It also feels so much shorter than its runtime due to solid pacing and excellent action. ROTS might be the most re-watchable of all Star Wars movies.
From worst to best:
The Last Jedi
Rise of Skywalker
Attack of the Clones
The Phantom Menace
Solo
The Force Awakens
Revenge of the Sith
Rogue One
Return of the Jedi
A New Hope
Empire Strikes Back
