Also i'd like to add that the Bourne trilogy is really overrated. The second one just flat out sucks.
I dont care if people put them in their list. I can see the appeal to them. I just didnt expect them to get as many votes as they did.
1. memento
2. the prestige
3. city of god

I'm not gonna knock anybody's list everyone has their own taste. This thing would be pretty damn boring if we all liked the same movies.

quote:Totally disagree on 3:10 to Yuma, which I think is his best work since LA Confidential. And any list of Russell Crowe's work without a mnetion of Romper Stomper is incomplete. There's a reason that movie catapulted him from obscure Australian movies to stardom.
I like The Insider, Virtuosity (yeah I said it), Fightin' Round the World, Body of Lies, Master and Commander, L.A. Confidential, etc.
Russell Crowe is a douche for sure, but he does put out good things. I do dislike, with fervor, Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, and 3:10 to Yuma

Better than the Insider? No way.

Hence the "etc." While we're on obscure Australian films....where's the Chopper love. That was even better.

I liked both Cinderella Man & 3:10 to Yuma(though nowhere near as good as the 50s original).

Your mention of Downfall redeems all three Russell Crowe inclusions. I wish it could have fit it in my list.
Yeah, but Galdiator over Downfall, that is surely got to piss off Hitler

Just for mocking's sake....
Gladiator wasn't so bad, and I thought Phoenix was stellar in that role. Hated that dude.

I hear you bash him all the time but never asked you why you hate him so much... Did he like kick a 7 year old in the face at one of his concerts or something??? :cuethecrowesouthparkpicture:

I just think he's grossly overrated as an actor.

Gotcha.
Kind of how I am with Tom Cruise.
Except it doesnt show as much with me since Dan isnt around throwing him in my face as a great actor.

I divide Crowe's career into two parts: pre and post Gladiator. I just think psot-Gladiator (or all of this decade), he's been more obsessed with being "manly" than putting out good work. I don't think 2010 Crowe could even do The Insider. I think his extreme manliness (for back of a better word) serve 3:10 wonderfully. But A Beautiful Mind is a terrible, terrible movie.

Actually I did. Small sample size, kind of a forgettable film it seems. It is never talked about on here, really. Sure some random people have commented on it, but not serious M/TV posters. To get the amount of votes it did is just weird.
It's just an enjoyable movie and that's why it got the votes it did. Not because it was ground breaking or thought provoking. It was just very enjoyable. Also Phoenix's performance was fantastic. He got robbed of an Oscar for this one.

Won't disagree there, but I thought the first one was excellent. Same with the Pirates series. First one was great, the other 2 not so much.

All those comparisons to Brando got to his head.

People were comparing him to Brando?

Yeah, maybe even pre-Gladiator. He was labeled "the next Brando" by more than a few publications from my recollection.

Like i've explained on here before. I really enjoy Gladiator based off sentimental value. It was the last movie I ever watched with my grandma. She hated violence but for some reason loved that movie. I cant watch it without crying now. Reminds me of her.

I think that's why his two best movies are L.A. Confidential & The Insider. Because he's a Co-star in those movies and not The Star. Master and Commander is the only movies he had the staring role that was as good as those two. Though I haven't seen as much Crowe movies as others here.
