According to sources close to We Got This Covered, Lucas has said he’ll return but only if he has full creative control over the franchise. From what we’re told, he thinks the studio has made a mess of it and feels he needs a great amount of control to get it back on track.

Not only that, but he also wants to bring along Dave Filoni – responsible for The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels – with him to help turn things around, with the idea being to have the fan favorite act as George’s right-hand man. That all being said, our sources say that there’s some resistance from Disney in regards to George’s proposal.

I say do it.

Star Wars IS Lucas, like Star Trek was Roddenberry or Middle Earth was Tolkien. He didn't just direct or produce, he wrote the stories.

Disney got away from the magic. This is a rare historical opportunity to bring the original author back on board to right the ship.

If they don't, then maybe Netflix can hire him to make some Space Fantasy movies...

dont give lucas too much credit. he had some half baked ideas and the balls the make it happen, but he was surrounded by incredibly creative and talented people who were the real "magic."

its no coincidence the best star wars movie is the one Lucas was least involved in.

Yes, I do-

He made an amazingly fun fantasy adventure film, that was so profoundly impactful to the audience that he was able to stretch it out into the greatest film trilogy (no book adaptation) ever made. He then made another trilogy, which although silly at times, fleshed out a universe that amazed millions of people. His creation successfully supplanted Star Trek as THE sci fi universe.

Since he sold it to Disney, it has made $$$ on the name in the title, and that's it. Outside of the Mandalorian, there is nothing not tied to Lucas that is successful. The animated shows are still continuations and extensions of his prequel trilogy.

This board has so much revisionist history about the prequels. The prequels have one fairly good movie, one average to below average movie and one dumpster fire.

Even if he was remotely capable (which he’s not) what’s the point? The ship has sailed and sunk.. Let it go people.

No shite.

ETA Filoni needs to be involved in Star Wars going forward with or without the old man. He basically created an animated series that revitalized and saved the prequel trilogy....that in and of itself is a miracle.
