To go along with Strong's quote......
Messenger Boy: The Thessalonian you're fighting, he's the biggest man I've ever seen. I wouldn't want to fight him.
Brad Pitt/Achilles: That is why no one will remember your name.

First movie i saw him in was called Across the Tracks with Rick Schroeder. They played rival brothers that ran track for different schools.

The only thing that's changed about his acting is that he eats a lot more while acting. Would hope that it happens like its not in the script but him saying "eff you I'm brad pitt and I'm hungry. action."

Not age. Attitude.
The talentless succubus from hell ruined him.

I think Pitt's a better actor today for sure, but it's a fact that his acting was panned earlier in his career by a lot of critics (specifically the 1993-1997 timeframe). It's like no one remembers why he wasn't nominated for any awards in Legends of the Fall (great movie and GOAT SCORE).
Like I said, Pitt's a good actor. I just think it's funny people are piling on the guy who stated something well known about Pitt's earlier acting career.

Seriously, Se7en's screenplay is so underrated.

It's about myth-making. The movie addresses it in the opening monlologue.
This thread basically translates to "I miss 90s pretty boy Brad Pitt."
He's done some of his best work in the last decade. This along with the Tom Cruise thread deserves an award or something.

I have to say, never interested me. I take everyone's word that he was good in it.

Moneyball
Understated in the right way to lead a movie - like he was as good as Hanks, Crowe or someone like that if they had been cast. It goes against what I think of him - "he can't lead a movie and he certainly isn't great in a 'conventional' role." He proved me wrong in this one.

Inglorious Bastards
Pitt does better in unconventional roles. He is the second best thing in IB. (That's a good thing.)
I'll add another. Burn After Reading. Just great as what I can only describe as a parody of himself.
And, I mentioned Floyd earlier in the thread:
Floyd is actually the most important character in True Romance

maybe i'm in the minority, but i don't ever remember Pitt being a shitty actor that much. i'm trying to think of anything before A River Runs through it. i feel like his roles like Oceans and Mr. and Mrs. Smith were his best.
ETA: Holy crap. Cool world. i wanted to see it so bad and my parents let me rent it in Jr. High. and then he banged a cartoon character. they were unhappy.

He tended to be wooden and/or awkward when they leaned on him. I give him crap for Legends of the Fall, but he had an easy job in that. I didn't care for much of the movie - not all Pitt's fault - the only reason to watch it is Sir Anthony (IMHO).
Now, I'll admit, I didn't get a true evolution, as I haven't seen most of his movies and didn't really see them in order.
Interview With the Vampire - yes it was a support role, but a big one. He was miscast (not his fault) AND terrible (his fault). Slater and Cruise were bad, too, so chalk that up to the director and screenplay (maybe).
Seven - I didn't see the movie until way later - may have changed my opinion about him earlier. He was still - technically - in support. But, he was pretty good in that. I freely admit that.
12 Monkeys - probably the movie that changed my mind about him. I watched it despite him and he was the best thing in it. Only a handful of guys could have pulled that off and I don't think any would have exceeded him. That was the film that should have steered him to dark comedies - probably his true calling.
I didn't see much of Seven Years in Tibet or Meet Joe Black. After I watched 12 Monkeys, the next film I saw him in (again, other than Floyd in True Romance - I didn't realize that was him until YEARS later) was Fight Club. Great performance.
Troy is unwatchably bad (he's a big reason) and Spy Game, The Mexican and Mr. and Mrs. Smith - are all just meh - at best. I don't think I ever watched Ocean's 13 and none of his films since Moneyball. He was better than expected in Benjamin Button - a nonconventional role AND film, but he had to carry it 100%. Almost like Castaway where Hanks was in almost every frame of the film, Pitt was in almost every frame of Benjamin Button. While I didn't think he was "outstanding" - that's relative. The movie works because Pitt delivers.
Now that I look at the list, I've never seen Snatch (I know, TWSS). I'm not a huge fan of Richie (although his BMW short is one of my favorites - Star with Madonna - then his wife - as a parody of herself). But, maybe I'll add it to the list.
