I want this Pitt back.

Watched Legends of the Fall and A River Runs Through It last night.

Both hold up remarkably well.

I remember when people didn't pretend he could act.

Seriously? "Fight Club" and "12 Monkeys" alone make that a ridiculous statement. He's got some chops.

Which movie would you say he "lost it". Whatever "it" is? Troy? Ocean's Twelve?

Soccer haircut aside, I thought he was good in Fury

You needa check out "The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford." I'm not a big fan of his acting either but dude gets totally lost in this role & it's truly mesmerizing. He plays James. (Movie is actually really good too)

edit to add: I rarely tell people what they need to watch but guarantee you this role will change your view of him as an actor.

I can't imagine anyone else as Tyler Durden.

Anyone.

I've never understood this. As an untrained pleb, I think he acts just fine.

It's one of my favorite movies. Casey Affleck completely stole the show and is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood. I didn't see Pitt getting lost in anything. As a matter of fact he looked and acted the same as he does in every movie, his mannerisms are exactly the same, right down to his laugh. Hell the narrator even gave Pitt material by describing Jesse's eye condition that caused him to blink more than usual, did Pitt add that to the "character"? Nope. Showing a range of 3 emotions (serious, mad, playful) and staring forlornly across a wheat field isn't getting lost in character IMO.

I remember when I got past his whole "pretty boy" thing and realized the guy is a great actor. Don't be dumb.

For some reason I always think of Brad Pitt's 'Iconic Role' as being Death in 'Meet Joe Black'.

Great movie, but Hopkins made that one. Pitt is alright, but playing stoic death probably wasn't that challening

Iconic, I would go with Se7en. Some of my favorites are his Ocean's roles, but mainly because I love the dynamic between him and Clooney. He's priceless in Burn After Reading. I know people love him in Basterds, but he annoyed me mostly. If you haven't seen the Mexican, do yourself a favor and asap.

William Somerset: This guy's methodical, exacting, and worst of all, patient.

David Mills: He's a nut-bag! Just because the fricker's got a library card doesn't make him Yoda!

David Mills: I don't think you're quitting because you believe these things you say. I don't. I think you want to believe them, because you're quitting. And you want me to agree with you, and you want me to say, "Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're right. It's all fricked up. It's a fricking mess. We should all go live in a fricking log cabin." But I won't. I won't say that. I don't agree with you. I do not. I can't.

David Mills: Yeah, a landlord's dream: a paralyzed tenant with no tongue.

William Somerset: Who pays the rent on time.

William Somerset: We'll just talk to him.

David Mills: Uh huh. Yeah. Excuse me, sir. Are you, by any chance, a serial killer? Okay.

William Somerset: You do the talking. Put that silver tongue of yours to work.

David Mills: Have you been talking to my wife?
