I just realized that it wasn't his uzi. Was watching the movie again it was Marsellus Wallace's gun. He had just left to go get coffee.

That is also why Vincent was surprised to see Butch. Assuming he heard the door open and someone moving around the apartment, he would have thought it was just Marcellus coming back with donuts and coffee.

Then changed to nothing and for the audience to fill in the blanks,

At least it was an accurate representation of what happens when you keep your finger on the trigger of a 1911. Drives me crazy when i see movies w/ someone's finger in the trigger guard in condition one. also tommy lee jones is carrying his 1911 in condition II in No Country For Old Men(bullet in chamber with hammer down) which a cop would never do, especially ex-military.
