There are numerous examples of Skylar sucking on the show, and none of them have anything to do with misogyny.
What's a good example of Skylar sucking (to the extent Walt does) BEFORE it was revealed to her that he was a criminal monster living under her roof endangering her entire family?
quote:
Also, people "cheering for" Walter would also admit that he is a crazy monster.
I'm not buying it, largely because it doesn't also apply to Skylar.

It's not a black and white issue...there's always some gray with just about everything on the show. You love Walt, then you hate him, and back and forth. That's one reason the show was so great...they made you like a completely unlikable guy. But liking him sometimes doesn't mean that you don't think he's a monster.
And I'm arguing that if you knew this person in real life, you would not love him and then hate him. You would hate him. Being on TV provides a level of remove that is not realistic. If you knew that hit men were under the same roof as a defenseless baby...and ALL because of his behavior, you would not love him. You would hate him.

Here is why I am team Walt. The simplest way to voice it is through an analogy.
Let's say that each man stole something from you, and you knew it 100%, and you confronted them about it.
Walt - would likely own up to it and either say "I did it, and I don't give a frick. What are you gonna do about it." or "Yeah, I did it and I'm sorry"
Hank - on the otherhand, would help you look for the thing he stole.

I don't see how that view is supported at all by the show.

Agree to a certain point and Hank assaulting Jessie and then being the one to call it in and admit to what happened kind of disproves this.
Hank manned up and took the blame.

Wasn't half the show hiding things from Skylar and/or directly lying to her?

Yes, but initially his intentions were for her and the kids benefit.

I'm watching the show for the first time on Netflix. Currently season 5 episode 7.
You mean to tell me I will go back to liking Walt? Cause right now he seems greedy as hell, and dumb. Has the perfect opportunity to walk away from it all with 5 million and nope...want to build an "empire".
Only characters I like currently are Mike, Hank, and Jesse(and Walt Jr if you are counting secondary characters).

Some people aren't wired to be just one of the herd. Some are driven by ambition to lead, to conquer, to rule. Often to their own detriment though

Maybe? I would say one of the key questions of the show was "when did Walt break bad?". I don't think it's unreasonable to say that he was always bad, but his cancer released all of his inhibitions.

Like Mike said
"Just because you shot Jesse James, doesn't make you Jesse James"
ETA: Did he say killed or shot?

this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read.
Walt was a conniving, manipulative, power hungry POS for most of the series.
He "helped" Jesse deal with Jane's death...that he had a hand in...he was a huge liar.
What makes you think he would be so honest if you confronted him?

Good point. Since it's a TV show, people love Walt and hate Skylar. It's silly and not like real life at all.

I don't hate Skyler. I don't really like her, but don't hate her. She seems terrified of Walt and defeated right now, but at the same time...she is just as greedy as her husband so you can say she put herself in the situation she is in.

She is of course not perfect. But there is WAY more grey area with her. She certainly did not choose to be put in an extreme situation. Walt did that to her.

Walt and Skyler are operating on such different levels it's pretty hard to compare them.
Walt becomes embroiled in and serves as an example of a kind of real politik world where results are what matter and typical middle class morality is seen as more of a pipe dream or something that can't be indulged in if you want to survive. As seen in the likes of people as diverse as the medieval kings of England to Michael Corleone to the heads of most modern gangs.
Skyler, on the other hand, never really seems to leave that typical middle class upbringing where it is not only possible but maybe even beneficial to toe the morality line.

bullshite. It doesn't take a genius to see that lying and hiding our in the desert for days at a time in (what you think) is your last days on earth is the opposite of what you should do as a husband and father. He resented his family for making him feel confined and powerless and he resented his life and choices by being the poor high school teacher vs the billionaire grey matter founder. He finally found an excuse to be a selfish arse.

One of my favorite parts was when she told Walt she slept with Ted.

What don't you understand about "initially"... And it wasn't his last days, he had months to live and was only getting the treatments to appease his family.
He INITIALLY intended to set his family up and quickly got the power rush.

Agreed. His initial motivation was he was desperate to take care of his family and thought he had a limited amount of time.

No he didn't. It's evident from the first episode. He sees the amount of money on the TV at the bust and anyone who has watched the show knows he thought. I want that. Then at the first cook he cooks and throws it away because it isn't perfect.
That dude was never once thinking about his family.
And Skyler is a terrible mother and a stupid person. She stays with Walt after all the truth comes out. Which negates any feelings of good will or woe is me or any of that shite.
She finds out what he's doing and stays. She cheats on him and rubs it in his face. She realized he baby is in life jeopardy and says with him. Never tells the cops, never tells her brother in law, never does anything except love the money and become a huge bitch.
In real life, as some poster is super fond of saying, you'd hate both parents and call child protective services.
