I'm 400 odd pages into Clash of Kings so I kind of know where the show is headed, but I have a question nonetheless.

Spoilers:

With Robb seemingly whipping Lannister arse, and with no sign of a love interest yet, I've noticed in the previews for season 2 that he states "I love her."

My question is is this someone who has already been mentioned in the books/tv show, or is she introduced in the last 300 pages of CoK?

I know he is betrothed to a Frey, but other than the Walders wardened at Winterfell, there is hardly a Frey mentioned up to my point in the book.

They are actually moving up a plotline from the third book into this season. You won't actually see her character until the first couple hundred pages of ASOS. They are adding that plotline and keeping Jamie in this season much more than in the book just to transition more smoothly with the seasons I believe.

Rob will make a love decision that shapes the course of history and has unexpected consequences...

Walder Frye is a bad bad man...

Thanks. I didn't foresee Robb falling for someone in the second book, given that I've yet to come across a chapter from his perspective after 400 pages.

I didn't read your spoiler, but have a question for those that read the books.

Is Jaime Lannister a hero in a way for finally killing the mad king? The show seems to not really portray it this way but reading the synopsis on wiki, it seems like it.

Jamie is never seen as a hero but as the books continue he attempts to redeem himself through a few acts of valor. After he loses his hand and returns to King's Landing, things begin to change. He is no longer seen as invincible

none of the POV characters in the books view him as a hero for doing so. The general mob does not either. he is derisively called "kingslayer". several readers may see the necessity in that act though.

The short answer to this is yes. I mean, Jamie is still a scumbag for throwing Bran out a window, but the rest of the stuff he gets a bad rap for with the Kingslayer title is pretty much BS due to people not knowing the whole story. And Jamie is way too jaded to actually bother to explain himself, or think it would matter. This shift in Jamie's personality isn't really shown until ASOS/season 3.

It depends. The Mad King wanted to burn King's Landing but he also had a sworn oath to protect him.

Not true, Brienne does when he tells her the story.

But the mad king was a sick frick? WTF? And he was planning on obliterating the Kings Landing and so many people?? I guess everyone is kind of an a-hole there.

Outside of Jamie and Brienne, nobody else knows that the King was planning on burning the city to the ground. Everyone else that knew Jamie either killed or died in the fighting. So to the rest of the world Jamie simply killed his King, which as a part of the Kingsguard he was sworn not to do.

I think you are right, but one thing to add here. Ned says to Jaime, "You served, when serving was easy." I think people like Ned understand that Aerys had to die, but the honorable hate Jaime for breaking an oath, and those in the know hate Jaime for waiting so long (after Aerys had done so much damage) to do anything.

Its the same concept as a secret service agent killing the president. Even if his reasons were justifiable the general public would never know the actual truth

I feel like you really started to like Jamie after awhile. I thought he was a complete douche, he still is, but really wanted to see him get his shite together. He's going to do something big in books down the road.

His love for Cersi, can cause him to make horrible decisions. He is not as bad as he comes off in the first season.

The thing is that he did it as a member of the Kingsguard.

This is a era that is big on honor and your word....and he forswore his vows.

As you read on in the books, GRRM kind of makes you sympathize with Jamie. The only reason he was picked to be Kingsguard was because Aerys didnt trust Tywin Lannister and pretty much holding Jamie as hostage so Tywin obeyed

. . . and a whole other can of worms is opened concerning what exactly happened between Aerys and Tywin. I think that's gonna be the biggest shocker of the series.
