I watched survivor a decent bit but quit after the stupidness of the season a couple of years ago. I just found out they don't do 40 days anymore and that it's only 26. Do fans like or dislike the change? Are you able to get into the show with it just being 26?

It stinks. Their excuse is Covid but it’s clear it just to cut down on the budget. There are many other things that they’ve cut back on as well. Still a big fan of the show tho and last season was great!

Less days isn’t too noticeable to me.

I just wish they’d go a season without idols and twists. So much luck is involved in winning these days.

With all that said, I still never miss an episode.

This. Too many twists. And really it isn't fair to the players some of the things that are introduced.

I happened upon and watched the most recent season of Australian Survivor. It is still the full blown version like the original Survivor with 40 days and more players.

It had idols only and they weren't floating aorund everywhere.

The best season of Survivor I have watched in quite a while.

Australian Survivor

those folks were literally starving and had to actually survive.

that's also the one where skupkin fell in the fire., they lost most of their rice and gave us Elisabeth Hasslebeck.

wife and i have been going through all or most of the Survivor seasons over the last 3-4 years. Survivor has certainly gone through a lot of change over the past 15 or so seasons. And most of said changes haven't improved the viewer experience. And we both could forever do with less Jeff facilitated Mao struggle sessions over race and LBTQLMNOP+ nonsense. Instant "Next Episode" or fast forward for us.

we definitely noticed them cutting back to 26 days. sort of cheapens the winner, along with all the gimmicks involved in winning these days. You pair that with how hands on medical is, Survivors these days are getting off easy compared to seasons 1-20. If they bump their heads mid challenge they call in med staff, get an IV, a snack, a therapist session, and full check up right there and then.

which just makes me wonder what all comfort items they get off camera.

i also don't like how they've cut back on challenges per episode to include more drama into each episode. it used to be a reward challenge and a immunity challenge if i'm not mistaken.

and please please please, never bring back Redemption Island. good Lord, they wore that idea out.

One of my favorite seasons of Survivor, but I believe he was talking about actual Australian Survivor, not US Survivor: The Australian Outback

I stopped watching that season, but have watched all the ones that have come after it. Its not like that, there was a little race flare up in one tribal in 42, but other than that the last 3 seasons have been pretty damn good.

I listened to Probst podcast where he explains all the reasons for everything that happens now on the show. He explains that in their opinion the show wouldn’t be as interesting without idols. A majority would form and basically run the games start to finish.

The 26 days is due in part because they film two seasons back to back at a resort in Fiji. Everyone is allowed to bring their entire families during filming.

American Survivor is so soft these days and the casts have been abysmal. They are focused too much on diversity now.
If you want to watch Survivor, watch Australian Survivor. I believe they go for 50 days in much harsher conditions. The casts are a lot better because they are mostly very hot girls and former athletes. I HIGHLY recommend watching s6 of Aussie Survivor. It should all be available for free on youtube. Probably the best player to ever play the game has his or her (I don't want to spoil it) debut this season.

Survivor needs to shut it down. Just finished Season 44. Most unlikeable cast of all time.

I still enjoy it but not as much as everything pre-season 35.

The 26 day season isn't super noticeable but it does impact gameplay. Mainly with how quickly everything happens (in real time not tv time). For instance there was two episodes last year that took place in only 2 total days on the island, where it would have been 6 days before. Leaves much less room for gameplay.

The shortening to 26 days isn't a huge change to viewers.

The biggest thing is that they mostly hit the ground running trying to take out threats instead of focusing on building a strong tribe. Truthfully though this started happening before the change, it's just more apparent.

Season 45 will begin airing September 27. CBS plans to run 90 minute episodes of Survivor and Amazing Race throughout the season. They haven’t announced the entire cast but Bruce, the guy who got a concussion just minutes into season 44 will be back. The cast will reflect CBS’ rule that 50% of any reality show contestants will be black, indigenous, people of color, etc.

I thought last season was very good since they seemed to avoid the woke BS. Probst’s podcast really added to the experience. It even got me seriously thinking of applying even though I’d be the “old guy” and have 0% chance of winning.

Amazing Race lost me forever though. I guess it was last season where an obese girl and her dad lost a non-elimination round and she said she still wanted to quit. The host and her dad had to beg and plead to get her to stay. It was obvious she was chosen for a reason other than her competitiveness.

I checked out when Probst felt the need to ask the group if him saying "hey guys" offended anyone and everyone said no, only for a few days later for one of the contestants to stop him and say "I thought about it and yes it does offend me!".
