I’ve been curious about starting to watch Peaky Blinders, I just have a question. My favorite show of all time is the Sopranos. How similar is Peaky Blinders to Sopranos, and another show I really enjoyed, Boardwalk Empire? Is Peaky the British version of a gangster series like the aforementioned two?

Peaky Blinders is a crime drama centred on a family of mixed Irish Traveller and Romani origins based in Birmingham, England, starting in 1919, several months after the end of the First World War. It centres on the Peaky Blinders street gang and their ambitious, cunning crime boss Tommy Shelby.

Great series, give it a watch. Turn on the closed captioning.

It’s one of the best shows ever made imo. Thomas Shelby is a very rare type of main character acted absolutely brilliantly by the guy from Oppenheimer. I wouldn’t compare it to those two because of that and how much of the show really hinges on him.

The final season is a bit of a letdown but it’s still good it’s just not as good as what came before. You should 100% watch it.

I'd give it a watch. I'd be surprised if you don't enjoy it.

We watched the first episode like 3 times over 3 weeks and didn't understand it. Turned on CC and it instantly started to make sense

I love The Sopranos and still watch episodes from it. I stopped watching Peaky Blinders probably about halfway through. It wasn’t because it wasn’t good because it was fantastic. I had a long wait to watch again and had forgotten enough I felt like I needed to start over. It’s on my list to watch again. I can’t speak to the entirety of the show but from what I’ve seen so far I’d put it close to The Sopranos and above Boardwalk Empire in quality. Thomas Shelby is an incredible character/incredibly acted and the other actors support him nicely.

Peak Blinders almost lost me with that season of him sulking the whole damn time. They lose their way a bit

Did not at all like the last season, but besides that, it is up there as one of the best shows I've ever seen.

If you like Sopranos and BE, you’ll like Peaky Blinders.

I just finished it for a second time last week.

Also a good show to binge now. 36 episodes over the course of a decade was a bitch. First time around I’d watch the season the day it was released and basically forget about it for two years.

Agree with everyone about closed captioning.

Peaky Blinders is amazing. Some of the best television I’ve ever seen. The last season is spectacular, in my opinion. It broke out of the older formula from previous seasons and became really psychological.

Cilian Murphy is incredible as Thomas Shelby. The show is criminally underrated.

But yes, watch with captions on. You’ll get used to it.

Also based on real gang Wikipedia-Peaky Blinders

Interesting trivia..Tom Hardy is married to Charlotte Riley in real life.

I've actually watched it 2x because I enjoyed it so much.

Same until Alfie shows up. Can’t understand a word he says without CC.

It is similar to Sopranos in that it revolves around an antihero crime boss who you really should not like, but you root for him anyway.

The limey gypsy godfather as a multi-season series.

If you liked the Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, you will like Peaky Blinders. I'm on my 3rd watch now.

As good as Cillian Murphy (Thomas Shelby) is in this Tom Hardy (as Alfie Solomons) is my favorite character in the show.

Pay close attention to every scene he is in. He absolutely kills it.
