Article was insightful but I didn't agree with his full-bore Christianity thesis.

Yeah, the whole Space Jesus thing seemed to reach a little. His explanation of the symbolism was spot on, however.

I think the mural clearly demonstrates that the xenomorph far preexisted what occurred in Prometheus.
Or the mural could have been a depiction of an Engineer prophecy.
The Engineers that they find on the moon are part of an extremist Engineer religion, who believe that someday humans will cause the extinction of Engineers' race by creating xenomorphs.
The extremist Engineers decided to take it upon themselves to wipe out humanity by black goo.
Everything goes wrong, goo gets out and kills them. Humans show up on moon, get infected by good, through a crazy serious of events a proto-xenomorph is created.
Boom, self-fulfilling prophecy.

Wha?
So the engineers knew about a fully formed xenomorph well enough to sculpt a mural depicting its likeness (was this in worship or a warning?), but somehow prophesied that humans would destroy the engineer race with xenomorphs in the future somehow, thus racing to destroy humans first with goo but lone remaining engineer on planet was eventually destroyed by human-produced facehugger who leads to xenomorph birth via engineer!?? I'm not following that.
Not saying you're wrong because neither of us has any basis to prove anything thanks to Lindeloff. Just not buying that as an explanation for the mural.

Way too much use of the word "goo."

Who really gives a shite? Ridley Scott didn't. The whole thing is a ripoff of At the Mountains of Madness anyway.
