Can you expand on the last part of your thought here? The makers of the movie seem to fully embrace some parts of fan culture. I assume you believe the creators want people to consume and enjoy the characters of Rey, Kylo, Finn, Phasma, Rose, Poe, etc don't they?

Do you reference the political commentary by Kennedy and RJ when you mention a "direct attack on fan culture"? Describing that as fan culture doesn't seem quite accurate either.

There are fans of star wars, fanboys of star wars, and political opponents of the Kennedy/RJ view of the world and they seem to have a predictably wide range of negative responses to materials they don't like (or even find abhorrent).

If you wanted to poke fun at fan culture I think the Conan O'Brien episode in which Triumph trolls the star wars fans did a lot better job in a more useful and entertaining way. Even the "Fanboys" movie had its heart in the right place in this respect.
