Pixar is confirmed to be undergoing layoffs in 2024, with up to 20 percent of jobs reportedly at risk.

The Disney-owned animation studio told TechCrunch that staff cuts would be "significant." Over the next few months, the team could drop from 1,300 members to under 1,000, with further job losses a possibility, TechCrunch reported.

Oh well.

Maybe they should go back to making movies people want to watch instead of shite they want to do that no one wants to watch and costs 3x as much as the other stuff.

Seems like Chris Gore was right about Pixar being an absolute shitshow

Wow time to triple down on LGBTQ and female representation in Pixar and make the core themes about climate change and open borders with a "traditional values" white male archetype villain.

Also, as a non-political take, AI might have something to do with this. Graphic artists will definitely be one of the first ones to go.

I thinj Disney has had way more political movies than Pixar.

Onward and Luca are pretty unobjectionable movies. They aren’t Toy Story but they’re better than The Good Dinosaur and a Bugs Life

I think they have a budget problem.

Turning Red is a good movie but I dont think it has the mass appeal to justify a budget like it had. It’s a great coming of age movie and funny, but it’s not for little kids.

I’m interested to see how Inside Out 2 does. Established Property true sequel. released during summer when all the kids are out.

I miss the charm of Pixar.

It ended with Coco (and you could make an argument this is their best film) and went directly into an Incredibles sequel, Toy Story sequel, and then some weirdo crap.

And it's rumored they are condensing season 4 of Mandalorian into a movie and delaying the Rey movie.

If you are a white male at Pixar you have to be dusting off the resume right about now.

There are many better sources than G + G if you're into Lucasfilm stuff. They're decent guys, but they just repeat shite from elsewhere. Clownfish and WdWPro actually have some contacts within the organization and some insight since they worked there.

everybody is in a bunch of layoffs right now. this isn't unique to disney/pixar.

don't get me wrong, i can delight in the stupidity of their agenda the last couple of years, but 2024 is going to be pretty bad in the job market for a LOT of people.

chickens are going to come home to roost.

on another board there was a disney/pixar employee and he said they started clearing house of old creative people and replacing with younger DEI hires a few years back and just were leaning on nostalgia without actual talent or experience.

Yep, you're not wrong. But Ryan, G+G folks have been saying this for quite some time. As have others.

The identity politics and woke chickens are coming home to roost.

I just think it's glorious to watch, but unfortunately, those who forced this trash aren't the ones losing their jobs.

I’d venture a guess that this is more about AI than their shitty filmmaking… shitty though it may be. I don’t think there is any avoiding this.
