Maybe he does. But if his intent was to have the audience sit aghast at how terrible this fascistic Federation is and sympathize with the bugs, he failed miserably.

Democrats would be saying the Bugs are just misunderstood and are the most peaceful bugs in existanence.

Reminds me of an interview with Lemmy where he was asked why he wore German and Confederate badges and associated stuff on his outfits when he played .. he said, "Don't you know? Evil armies always have the coolest uniforms".

Casper Van Dien said that while promoting the film in Italy, the press wanted him to play up the film’s supposedly “pro-war” and “pro-Nazi” bent. “One of the Italian press came to me and said, ‘Well, this is obviously a pro-war film and pro-Nazi film. Why don’t you do a Nazi salute?'” Van Dien recalled. “I said, ‘Obviously, you haven’t seen this movie if you think it’s a pro-war film, and I will never do a Nazi salute because, first of all, that’s not what this is about. You’ve missed the whole movie.”

This movie was right up my alley in college when it came out. Skipped class with a buddy of mine to go watch it one day. And we liked it so much we skipped class the next day to watch it again.

It’s one of at most five movies in my life that I’ve seen twice in theaters

Yeah right. They have spaceships and advanced technology but can’t figure put a way to use lasers or exploding rounds instead of bullets?

It’s absurd that anybody would believe the bugs could send an asteroid across the galaxy with their plasma farts

Even if you had perfect aim, even if you managed to get the asteroid to the speed of light (not possible), it would take over 50,000 years for it to reach Earth (and if it was going that fast, it would obliterate the planet).

Of course, the bugs are never shown HOW they colonize other planets - but we do know they never engage human ships in space. Human spaceships only have to worry about ground-based attacks, and even the atmospheric ships never encounter much to fret over.

A false flag makes WAY more sense, but even then the average person should probably figure that if it were an asteroid flung from their system, then they were trying to muder cavemen.

But the books version was a little different:

The book is WAY different than the movie.

Aside from "kill bugs in sci-fi" and the name, they're very different.

I mean if them saying they modeled the uniform after the Nazis uniform isn't a dead giveaway that they are implying the Americans are Nazis, I can't really help you. I don't need them to be cartoonishly evil to understand what is going on.

But I can understand that you saw cool explosions and boobs so to you there is no way they are bad guys.
