I thought Beyond was good, but I didn't like the first two. I really hope the destruction of Romulus in the Prime timeline is made not canon and all this swept under the rug.

Whatever you do, do not read about the new Picard show.

They weren't the best films but not totally horrible either; although I'm always reminded of the following when people mention the new Star Trek films:
NSFW language - It's perfectly in Spock's character - NSFW language

I liked the first one, but I predicted what they would do after they resolved that plot with time travel. I said they'd throw in old characters and stories, reworked because of the "time line," and make them do whatever they wanted.
They thought they were being clever by doing this and that it would allow them to regurgitate old Star Trek shite indefinitely, but all it did was underscore the utterly formulaic structures of the next two movies.
And then we all had to be shown that yes, Sulu is definitely gay. See? He's with a dude, and they have a kid. Look everyone. Sulu is definitely a homo.
Even IRL gay Sulu thought that was stupid.

Paramount had little choice but to walk away from a movie likely to cost as much as Transformers but earn about as much as Bumblebee.
Good writing.

Hemsworth was Kirk’s dad in the prologue of the first movie IIRC.

Yeah I know but Why are they acting like he’s in the main cast?

He would have had a big part in the movie - the plan for ST 4 was a time travel visit with Kirk's dad.

Good. The first one was a fun space adventure. The third one was like a terrible fan fiction. Into Darkness pissed me off so bad I yelled at me wife that night.

The second one was so bad that I haven't watched it again and didn't go see the 3rd. And I am a huge Star Trek fan. Glad they aren't making anymore. I'll just watch The Orville

The third was so bad it might have killed Ace if he had watched it.
Those movies don't want to tangle with me, son.
There is a difference between building on a legacy (for the long-term future) and pure, raw, unchecked exploitation of an existing brand.
As most of you are well aware, I'm clearly in the camp that puts Abrams' films in the latter category. I'm sure there will be some attempt to re-reboot the film franchise in 5 to 7 years with an all female cast or whatever (Have Chris Hemsworth play A'huro, the tall, vapid communications officer).
And I won't watch that shite, either.

The third one was bad. I felt personally insulted by Into Darkness.
