Paramount Has Canceled 'Star Trek 4, And Disney's 'Star Wars' Is To Blame
quote:
To the surprise of absolutely no one paying attention, Paramount/Viacom has discreetly pulled the plug on the fourth chapter in their rebooted Star Trek movie franchise. This tidbit was buried in a Deadline article about the new Game of Thrones prequel spin-off, as the pilot episode is to be helmed by SJ Clarkson. Clarkson was set to direct the sequel to Star Trek Beyond, and her attachment to the HBO fantasy prequel series is tied to Paramount pulling the plug on the sci-fi sequel. So, barring a reemergence or a change of heart, Bad Robot’s rebooted Star Trek franchise is no more. And, truth be told, 'twas Star Wars that killed the Star Trek.
quote:
To the extent that the new Star Trek movies were filling a hole left by the divisively-received Star Wars prequels (and the lack of Matrix or Lord of the Rings-type franchises), the return of the genuine article negated the need for new Star Trek movies that could approximate Star Trek-level sci-fi wonkery with Star Wars-worthy blockbuster thrills.
quote:
As of now, Star Trek Discovery is apparently delivering action-packed Star Trek-worthy thrills on CBS All Access while Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville is going the topical sci-fi and talk > action interstellar adventure route over at Fox. Not only is the Bad Robot Star Trek franchise not the only (or biggest) Star Wars-type series in town, it’s not even the only major Star Trek option for fans and general consumers. And with Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth apparently refusing a pay cut (from contracts foolishly negotiated before Star Trek Beyond opened), Paramount had little choice but to walk away from a movie likely to cost as much as Transformers but earn about as much as Bumblebee.

He's a Star Wars homer, but I'll take this as another reason to prefer Star Trek to Star Wars.

The first one was legit. The latest one was AIDS in movie form.

Trying to get Hemsworth and Pine on the cheap at this point is a losing battle.

Damn I was hoping for another one. First one was badass and the others entertaining.
Was hoping they'd cap it off with a solid 4th installment.

The rebooted Trek movies were getting worse and worse. I’ll take this as a blessing.

Come on. The last one had a motorcycle chase. It was the Great Escape of Star Trek movies.

the first one was excellent. then they progressively got worse, like others had said. might be a good move to let the series end.
enjoyed them though!

Gay.
Have never watched the old stuff, but I enjoyed and own all three of these, even though the third one was pretty weak, imo.

That's putting it lightly. Scott Mendelson would have an existential crisis if he wasn't able to provide damage control for Lucasfilm.

I really liked the cast but JJ's two Star Trek movies felt like Star Trek in name only.

You didn't like music killing everything.
I liked one. I mostly enjoyed the second. The third was so bad it might have killed Ace if he had watched it.

We’re on the same page. The first one has a ton of rewatch value, the second not so much, and the third is what I would put on loop to torture someone.

Nickelback would have been a much more appropriate choice if they wanted music that kills people.

Gene Roddenberry was a MASSIVE Beastie Boys fan.

Guess I am in the minority, I really enjoyed Star Trek: Beyond

NASA played Hey Ladies as the Shuttle shot Roddenberry's ashes into a black hole.

IMO, the world doesn't need anymore Star Trek movies.
