This isn't about remakes. This about a movie that generated a copycat version. Sometimes the original was better and sometimes the copycat was better.

I'll start:

Gumball Rally vs. Cannonball Run

While the Cannonball Run was good film, the Gumball Rally was a much better movie. Raul Julia, as always delivers.

What do you have?

Wyatt Earp was an enjoyable movie to me. But Tombstone was better.

Dr. Strangelove > Fail Safe
Without Limits > Prefontaine
Bugs Life > Antz
Robin Hood (1991) > Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
After Hours > Into the Night
Infamous > Capote
The Equalizer = John Wick
And... Thunderball > Never Say Never Again > Octopussy

I saw a youtube explaining all this.. Its like there is a pot of scripts that gets hustled through hollywood... And when one studio picks one up, other studios quickly try and write a copycat script and film and release before the other.

that's how you get Olympus has Fallen and White House Down in the same year.

I think some of it is also people in the business reading the same books, being exposed to the same info through pop culture. It happened a lot in comics too, with X-Men/Doom Patrol, Vision/Red Tornado, Swamp Thing/Man-Thing... You had writers hanging out with each other and reading the same stuff and watching the same movies, coming up with the same characters at almost the exact same time.

There is a movie, a Tim Robbins movie "The Player," which delves into studio mindsets, script and storyline competitions and why movies parallel one another between studios during given periods of time.

There are always going to be different takes, among studios, in the same genre ....

DC Comics vs Marvel
This asteroid strike disaster vs that
This zombie apocalypse vs that zombie apocalypse

That's not the same as remakes but it is the same as copy cats.

Two or three of the most famous examples of remakes are ...

A Star Is Born ... (1937 Janet Gaynor, Frederick March)(1954 Judy Garland, James Mason)(1976 Barbara Streisand, Kris Kristofferson)(2018 Lady GaGa, Bradley Cooper)

An Affair to Remember and Love Affair.

Parallel releases are another thing as previously mentioned with the Wyatt Earp and Tombstone releases.

That came two years later, but:

Robin Hood: Men in Tights > Robin Hood (1991) > Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
