One of the great enable casts films of the last 40 yrs and probably one of the best written and acted major Hollywood comedy/dramas in recent memory.

So who gets it?

Top Contenders:

Actors
Gene Hackman as Harry Zimm
John Travolta as Chili Palmer
Renee Russo as Karen Flores
Dennis Farina as Ray 'Bones' Barbone

Writers
Elmore Leonard and Scott Frank

Director
Barry Sonnenfeld

Casting Director
David Rubin

...

My opinion - Farina basically steals the movie. Hackman is right there with him.

There are no bad scenes in the entire film.

Best Supporting for Dennis Farina, as that is one of my favorite comedic performances ever.

“eg, ie, frick YOU!”

Leonard and Frank for Adapted Screenplay is also a solid choice.

Not saying he should win it over these guys, but Delroy Lindo was pretty damn good in this movie.

Every actor of significance brought their A game. Even lesser known ones like James Gandolfini was at that time.

Thats why I included the casting director and director in the possible winners.

Not a bad actor and not a bad performance in the entire film.

Lindo
Devito
Gandolfini
Mr Escobar
Faye
Leo
Ronnie
Better Middler
Even Yayo and the FBI agents all played perfectly.

They really should give (and I know they will start in 26, I think) an Oscar for "Best Cast".

Farina was a cop for almost 20 years, then has this great second career as an actor.

travolta s run in the 90s was both a startling comeback and an unappreciated string of quality movies with engaging and disparate performances

forget “look who’s talking” those movies are crap. After that:

Pulp Fiction
Get Shorty
Broken Arrow
Phenomenon
Michael
Face/Off
A Civil Action
Primary Colors
The Generals Daughter

All of those are compelling characters with real charisma and completely rewatchable.

Then he went sideways with battlefield earth

Sideways to greatness. Battlefield Earth is one of the most epic scifi extravaganzas ever created. I watch it religiously

Farina with maybe Sonnenfeld as the #2. What I remember is that it was out of the blue and just great. I mean, without a doubt this was a major project (the cast alone confirms that), but for it to come out so well probably surprised people.

Hackman is underrated for his comic timing (see Superman), as is Farina (Midnight Run).
