Actually, this could be a rather crafty play by Dwight. It's pretty obvious that Dwight is not all aboard the Negan train. He just got Negan's doctor killed. If they go to war, that's a massive loss to Negan.
It was definitely kind of clunky in execution, but I could see Dwight's thinking.
If Dwight was motivated by the letter to find who he really is, this would be the play. He assumes she is dead, says he killed her, and frames the doc with a wicked smile. Makes him look even more badass to Negan. Seems like the writers are trying to make us believe that he lost all hope (in typical TWD semi obvious fashion) and going all in dark.
My guess she shows back up right at the convenient plot moment to 'surprise, frick you Negan' right as he is realizing that Dwight turned on him. It would be so TWD to play this out.
ETA- I've been basically done with this show for 2 seasons, but the wife DVRs so we watch in bed Sunday nights. This is really the only reason I still watch, but do still sometimes enjoy an episode or 2.

What happens when Negan finds out that Dwight lied about his wife?
I think that Dwight sold out the doc because the doc somehow either didn't believe his story on the walkers getting her or maybe he knows something. Either way, he had to do it for his own survival.
Heck, Negan is a better character than Rick.

I think Negan knows it too.
Good episode. We needed some more detail on the day to day in their compound.
You would think the Doc would know keeping the lie and getting burned on the face is the safer route.

I thought it was a little weird that the doc was questioning Dwight while he was fixing him up. Seemed like he was asking some weird questions (Did you find her? What happened?). Like it felt like the doctor shouldn't have really been asking those types of things, let alone even really known why Dwight was gone in the first place.
All that being said, it's still fricking stupid to throw your doctor into the fire like that. Like really fricking stupid, and makes almost zero sense.
It's shite like that that makes me not like this Negan angle. Surely he has to know that constantly throwing Sherry in Dwight's face like he does all the time isn't smart. And surely he has to know that no matter how "brainwashed" you think someone is, there is only a certain amount you can push them before they break and go crazy on you. For someone as street smart as Negan, they sure as hell do make him out to be completely fricking stupid at times too.
I did like how Eugene acknowledged that Negan killed several of their people, but that it was in retaliation for the 30+ they had killed at that outpost. We all seem to forget that for as bad as Negan is, he was at least somewhat justified to get retribution against Rick and company.
If I am Eugene, I fall in line BIG TIME within the Saviors and try not to frick anything up. You can always do what you need to do when the time comes. But fighting it like Darryl is the stupid choice for now.
Not a great episode, but not awful either. I just wish they would spend more time advancing the story as opposed to these offshoot episodes all the time. Yes, I realize that's sort of the TWD formula, but still...I don't have to like it.

Dwight is trying to hide in plain sight. He had to come back with something that saved his arse and his ex's and satisfied Negan. I think he is waiting on the right time to take a shot at Negan.
I have been saying since about episode 2 of this season, the war breaks out, Negan dies. Dwight and the guy with the beard that comes to Alexandria would be the 2 stuggling for power. If Dwight gets support, the whole region could stabilize.
The war will be awesome for special effects but there is at least half a season of figuring out the aftermath of the whole region and introducing a new enemy. They just need to keep the action going. I feel like outside of Rosita shooting at Negan, there hasn't been much action outside of the Premiere.

This was a better episode than most of the other recent ones IMO.

A good old fashion readers/nonreaders clash should up the page count on this thread quickly, though I have no idea what you initially posted.

Oh, I remember now. Had to do with the Rick's and Negan's future in the comics.

negan (justifying killing dr carson): "We have another Doctor Carson."
the doctor at the hilltop (the OBGYN treating maggie is named "harlan carson"

How the hell does Kirkmann write in characters that are both Dr. Carson? That's retarded.
Posted on 2/27/17 at 2:52 pm to Cole Beer
Who knows. I'm sure that kirkman didn't make that big a goof.

maybe they are related?
and if so, maybe negan knows this, and had always planned on dr carson #2 as his relief pitcher
this issue of replace-ability is big in this episode...eugene tells the stepford wives that negan would believe him over them regarding the suicide pills, because they are replaceable and eugene is not. then the comment about the doctor being replaceable (we have another dr carson). then the whole nature of dwight's character arc (going from disposable to important and back/forth).
if negan does plan to snatch dr carson #2, that would obviously affect the hilltop, and would really affect maggie

also, fetching the 2nd dr carson would be a convenient way for dwight to wind up at the hilltop. and who's fixing to be at the hilltop?
his good friend daryl...

Maybe they're brothers or cousins

Negan has the main compound, multiple outposts, and an unknown number of communities under his thumb. I'm sure he has plenty of options for doctors.

I pretty much sat out the first half of this season as I wasn't really keen on all the doom and gloom, Negan craps on everybody every week part of the story.
But I tuned in to the 2nd half premiere since I was stuck in a hospital bed and looking for something to past the time. And they were promoting the heck out of the "fight" back theme.
I think it worked out pretty good. I still got some good snippets of Negan being Negan but without all the oppressive hangdog despair stuff from the survivors.
