I agree.

I disagree. I think his status will allow him to be passed over while some lowly druggie will probably get arrested. MM clearly thinks they arrested the wrong guy the first time. And I think not arresting the preacher would especially stick in his craw.

Gotta believe the preacher/minister guy with the glasses that showed up at the office near the end is the killer.

He's connected (brother of the Governor?), and he said "a war is coming". He also had a sleazy look about him and McConaghey was skeptical of him.

Sounds like a Christian zealot/fanatic who likes to kill hookers.
frick you if that's right.

What if the most recent killer is a copycat? The case is so vile it twists Harrelson's character into this. MM is too obvious.

What was he drinking on the way to the bar? He had a little bottle of something that looked like a meds bottle

I'm assuming it's robitussin. He seems to like dissassociatives considering he likes barbituates which explains his aloof and odd behavior and speak

He would be too old to commit the murder in 2012 and string that woman up (unless it's a copycat).

However many there are, it's going to have a different cast each season.

Well that just wouldn't be very good tv now would it

you can make interesting characters and get them right. i know exactly the type of person MMs character is supposed to be, and they don't act like he does if they're functioning in a job that requires a lot of social intelligence/work

making an impossible character just to make it interesting is the sign of weakness

I think the LC girl will be from a copycat.
Too much time has passed between the two.

Seems like a cross between The Killing and Hannibal, but maybe better than both. Hope they go real dark with it.

You're the only person thinking he's an impossible character though. You're hung up on the fact that he would've never gotten the job but we have no idea of what he did prior to 1995 or the circumstances regarding his hiring or move from Houston.

We do know that he is an alcoholic who frequently uses DXM and Barbituates which makes his behavior very believable. If his character is unbelievable than pretty much every single "bad cop" character in the history of film is an unbelievable character. Because quite frankly MM's character is more believable than the vast majority of them.

we don't know this, especially in the timeframe of 1995. he fell off the wagon and admits he did

he asks for ludes, got drunk once, and used DWM once. we don't know if this becomes a pattern or not

that depends on a number of factors, like rank, agency, and duties

Well we know he acts and lives like an addict in 1995 and we know that the director clearly wanted to make it clear he's using now. We also know that he is quite clearly still using in 2012.

I think assuming that it becomes a pattern is about as safe of an assumption as you can make at this point.
