How many episodes do I have to catch up on? 14?

All the info you need is in the OP.

This week we are discussing E11 and E12 of S1. The episode assignment for this week is E13, the S1 finale. Next week will be discussion on that episode and S1 as a whole.

Also, this brings me to a point. For Fringe, we took a week off in between seasons, and it worked pretty well. Do you guys want to do that for this one too? I'm game for that, but also am game to keep going right on into S2 if that's what you guys would prefer.

Everyone respond to this if you can so I can see what the majority opinion is.

Daniels was difficult to like, initially. When he sides with his guys after the incident at the towers - you start to warm up to him. Then, after you warm up to him and the FBI guy tells Jimmy on the side, "He's dirty."

But, this was about the point in the show where I decided he was really okay and one of the "good" guys.

And we see that brought up last night when we see Burrell bring up Daniels's time in the Eastern district and Daniels seems to be okay with who he is now (considering it seems like he's done some shady shite in the past).

Brianna Barksdale was played by British-born Jamaican Michael Hyatt, who moved to the U.S. with her family when she was 10.

Lawrence Gilliard, Jr., is from NYC - my best guess would be Gilliard is of Haitian or Dominican extraction, but that's a complete WAG.

Hilarious that ole boy doesn't even know who Daniels is. And it speaks to the bureaucratic bullshite that goes on in cities like this.

I thought Chase was trying to also add a layer of race to that whole exchange.

I imagine someone pointed at Daniels and the other guy he was talking to and tells the Commissioner "Daniels is right there," and he just assumed the white guy was Daniels.

Also got a big kick out of the "Kima has a roommate" part of that scene. Loled when Burrell gave a big frown saying "Guess I'll do it myself" after getting told to frick off by the Commissioner.

Keep on rolling. I'm pissed we're only watching one episode this week. Definitely don't want to only watch one episode over a two week span.

The Hunt:

As head scratching as it is to think the cops and Orlando didn't realize the Barksdale crew would try to kill Orlando, it is equally baffling that the crooks didn't even consider it was a setup, except for Avon, who i assume is kept out of the details for protection. Avon knows, he says who when they saw the woman they weren't expecting they should have called it and get Orlando another time. I love when String is saying the money was his fault, saying he thought the shooters could just take it for their time and Avon snaps back, where you think Orlando go that kind of money?

The Commish comes off as the bumbling idiot, further showing the incompetence of the bureaucracy.

Poor bubs, wants to get clean and the cops push him back to using.

They don't know that Stringer is clear.

I figure they have a pretty good idea. If the cops know that Wallace was their key to charging Stringer, then surely B&B have that idea as well. They're smart dudes. We saw them sit down and make a list of people who can connect them to shite and who they could trust and all that. And they intentionally stay away from handling certain duties to keep themselves clean.

I think it boils down to them just being professionals about it, like Ace said.

I think it is clear that they are thinking rationally - Avon wanting the safe open so the cops don't have to blow it. Enjoying the show of the tactical team coming to get the 2 of them - Stringer is never armed and Avon only rarely.

When I watch the scene, I believe that they assume they will both be arrested and Stringer is at least a little surprised when he is not - at the very least - cuffed and escorted outside. And that has been my impression every time I've watched the scene. Regardless of what they know about the evidence against them, they assume the cops will do what they want up to a point.

I don't think there is any doubt Avon and String thought they'd both be arrested. i thought when Jimmy says to Stringer that we'll catch you later, he was planting a seed of doubt that Stringer may have been the or a leak.

Yep, they already were thinking post-arrest and they already had Levy lined up. They handled the situation like pros, get it over with without anymore drama, get out on bail, and make plans to keep the operation running.

Also on the arrest Jimmy nails it again NO WAY are these guys resisting, let alone armed. The cops are mobilizing a swat team in body armor and battering rams. They no doubt would have crashed in with automatic guns drawn yelling a screaming, throwing suspects to the ground.

ETR: I think they were spoilerish enough that Jake is right.

I'm not going that far. It is polarizing. I get why it is polarizing. It is better than the average fan of The Wire gives it credit - much, much better in most cases.

I'll put it this way - it has gotten better every time I've watched it (3 times).

I'm really looking forward to the Season 2 discussion for those reasons. I'm in the camp that ranks it lower (only season 5 is lower imo) though it is great (just not season 1,3 or 4 great) and gets better as the season progresses. so i expect i'll like it more the 2nd go round.
