In this thread or with the show?

I'm trying to keep future spoilers out as much as possible, but eventually it's gonna happen. We've at least labeled important spoiler shite for the most part I think.

And jump in on the discussions, man. It's cool to see what first time watchers (if that's what you are) think of what's going on.

them hanging too far back and not keeping tabs on Kima was just an all-around mistake. And I love how as soon as Sevino got in the car, he cranked the music up to be safe. And then when he heard Kima shout out a location, he cranked it up even more. The cops played right into their hands on that one, and it was a great plan/setup. All the way down to flipping street signs to confuse their directions.

You think they knew an undercover was in the car?

I was thinking they didn't know Kima was a cop. Killing or shooting a cop would bring more heat and unwanted attention on them. But that was some bad errors on the police.

Before anyone gives out any spoilers remember we learn a lot more about what went down and how it went down in the next episode.

Ok. It's been almost 10 years since I've seen this season. I haven't watched the next two yet.

But I think it's better second time around.

Wee Bay says they had no idea a cop was in the car as undercover when he's talking to stringer in the copy shop. They would have never set up that deal if they knew police were involved at any level.

I'm talking about the cops keeping tabs on Kima. Obviously the druggies didn't know she was a cop. But the cops damn sure did. And they intentionally kept their distance to the point where she got lost and got shot.

Also I know it is maybe 2003 (someone help?) but I have no clue why they didn't put a GPS tracker on the car? This might be a baby, baby spoiler but we learn they definitely have the technology later in the season.

Ah gotcha, one of the things I wondered is how did none of the cops know about the kids turning around street signs to mess with them. You would think that would have come up a few times

Some of my thoughts on Episode 10:

Dee baby mama fine, but she was annoying the frick out of him. Sorry Dee, Lester done locked Shardeen up

Yep, Orlando is a dumbass. He doesn’t value his life fricking with B&B. Undercover cop look like Ray Rice. Levy telling Orlando you know what will happen if you don’t sign lol

Jimmy is the man, bringing beer and crab cakes to officers on duty. His wife is sexy as frick but what a bitch. Jimmy kids talk to much, tattletale!

They should have known Orlando was going to get popped for fricking up. Orlando should have known as well, especially since he knew the hoppers frick with the signs and going into that alley. Mess with B&B, you gonna get killed. They had that shite setup perfectly

Catching up:

Wasn’t federal charges when Dee was in court for intimidating the witnesses. I think killing the Working Man made the case against Bird federal?

I believe Prop Joe was just trying to convince String he didn’t Omar. I am sure Omar has got Joe’s people before. Plus Omar got the beeper code from Joe and did say he was predatory. Not to get too far ahead, I am sure Joe knows about Butchie and his grandma.

Believe they get money back from helping out the CI, happens in S2 with Herc. Not to go into detail.

Yeah they didn’t know Kima was a cop. I thought they should have been following closer especially with Savino turning up the music and shite.

As far as the hopper turning the signs, I could be wrong but I was thinking because Jimmy and them arent walking the beat so that might not be something they deal with. And we all know the departments don’t talk.

Yeah the Wire gets better and better as I rewatch. To the guy who mentioned Rawls, I mentioned earlier I start to like him more and more.

Didnt remember Bubz had a kid as well

Nothing too spoilerish in that post but the episodes being "currently discussed" end right after Kima got shot.

Yes I'm a first time watcher and so far I'm really intrigued.

My favorite moment of season one is in the board room with the feds......you obviously get an understanding of what "THE WIRE" is really about.

They listed things they would go after Russian connections, dirty politicians etc.....

I'm paraphrasing but that scene felt to me like the real story........

Then of course they open Season 2 with McNalty on the boats which was easy to see after it was foreshadowed....and we are learning about where the drugs come from.

My main beef with the wire is that it far overestimates the intelligence of low street level tpos.

I can accept that Stringer is smart, hes at the top of the chain.

But some of the low level guys show intelligence more than street smarts, very unlikely in kids with 2nd grade reading levels with crackhead parents.

Hell, Omar knew Ares was the greek god of war and that Mars was the Roman version of the god. I could ask 1000 residents of Holly Grove about that and 0 would know wtf i was talking about.

Nola is a fricked up place in terms of organized crime. no real gangs so you don't really get the same types

Nola is mainly a bunch of mindless Neandrethals reppin their little slice of life in the most barbaric of ways in small groups

now i'm sure they took some artistic license with some of the dialogue...there is some reality though

remember, the actor who plays the Deacon was Avon in his time and "Omar" existed irl (with some stories more fantastical than the show)

OP updated. Discussion for this week is E11 and E12 of S1.

Let's try to remember to keep the discussion from straying into future episodes/seasons if we can. And if it does happen, be sure to label spoilers if you have any.

I am off today but will try to add my thoughts and responses tomorrow.
