I'm dumbfounded that so many people disliked this episode. Don't you people ever get tired of Rick and the group trudging along from one shithole to another poking zombies in the head? The 9 seasons spent at the prison nearly ended my interest in the show. Here's an episode that proffered a downright surreal look from another group's perspective. They have resources unavailable to most (e.g., electricity) that allow them to maintain some semblance of order, highlighted by the pristine appearance of the officers' uniforms, yet the events that unfold display the contrasts so evident in that "order." There's the leader with her grandiose ideals of their role in the restoration of society when the cavalry comes, yet she overlooks the atrocities committed by those who pose a viable threat to her position in order to maintain it. And they find rationalization to only save those weak enough not to offer resistance. There's the doctor, still saving lives which can only be a drain upon their obviously limited resources (though there is the plus of indentured servitude), yet he uses an innocent to kill another doctor who may usurp his position, thus his safety. It's a subculture in this apocalyptic reality that is believable yet so surreal that it appears like a glimpse into the Twilight Zone. And the ending - the appearance of Carol upon the scene - opens up so many possibilities. Is she a victim or did she intentionally work her way in? And the suspense - you just know Carol and Beth are going to wreck shite! It also gives us the opportunity to see what one of the weakest members of the group is capable of when isolated from that group - using skills that she obviously would not have acquired had she been a member of the hospital group from the outset. One of the best episodes in what is shaping up to be the best season since the first.

Maybe the problem some people have is that this series so often spends a great deal of time on so little plot development.
Some people will like the extra time spent exploring morality, etc - others just want the story to progress.

I was impressed with how much insight we were able to get into that group in such a short amount of time. But like I said in another post, they don't represent a compelling ally or enemy. so in the grand scheme of things they don't matter and therefore it was a waste of time unless you care about Beth going from the least capable member of the group to...wait, she's still the least capable member of the group even though she might have doubled her skill points.
I liked the episode, but I don't think you have to be an action junkie to dislike it.

This hasn't really been the case for most of season 4 and season 5...
Things have progressed and the have been able to spend the time on certain morality issues...
People really need to stop making opinions on the series based on seasons 2 and 3, which had a really shitty showrunner in Glenn Mazarra.
Scot Gimple has done an excellent job with the storylines so far.

I thought the episode was fine. Seeing the main characters interact with other groups, both good and bad, in the ZA is basically the plot of the whole show. Not sure why everyone has a problem with it. We will get to see Rick and company slaughter a bunch more zombies soon enough.

I still don't get why there are zombies around people. Why wouldn't those people just kill the zombies? Like in or around the hospital, just kill and dispose of them then secure the fences. They aren't hard to kill. More will show up occasionally but then you just take care of them. I just don't see how they would be a major hazard anymore..

That requires a level of coordination and cooperation that is in short supply. When they were at the prison they were able to maintain this fairly well until the end when they put too many resources into farming and a crazy girl was feeding walkers instead of killing them. So they got a little lax and then the Governer comes along and put the nail in the coffin of the safe haven they had built.
Any time you build up a certain level of resources and sophistication, someone else will come along to pillage it. It's what humans do, we compete over resources. The good of the many outweighs the good of the one in a fancy Star Trek universe, but in the ZA it's every man for himself and usually the more people you screw along the way the better.

Just watched the ep. Def the weakest of the season, but I didn't think it was that bad.
I liked the different feel of the ep for a while at the beginning, the ep just moved a little slowly.
The new characters were mostly one dimensional, but they did a good job w/ the doctor. In normal circumstances he would be a good person and he is largely trying to do what he can. But he isn't strong enough to stand up to the regime or escape, and at the end we see that he was actually willing to cause someone's death to protect his position. I think that seems like a fairly realistic scenario and to me is more interesting than "good guys" and "psycho bad guys".
It was kind of poetic justice for Joan's reanimated corpse to be the one to kill Gorman.
As soon as the black kid said he was going to try to escape I thought maybe he would be the one that was with Daryl. I figured it wasn't Carol and that something happened to her. Ep probably would have been more enjoyable w/ more of those two characters, but the last scene was pretty effective.

I think I'd be an a-hole in the ZA. It's hard enough already to go through all the bullshite as it is. If I was stuck in the same place with Beth I'd detour my escape for a few days at least.
Hell, at that point I'd probably be plotting how to kill anybody that is a possible cockblock.

I think the main person to come out of this episode will be Noah. He said he was from Richmond so he probably knows how to get there better than anyone with rick or Abraham.
The moral dilemma of taking the doctor or leaving him might be a secondary plot seeing how he tricked Beth and it looked like she was about to stab him when they wheeled in carol.
