i just got back from seeing this.
Playing this demented lunatic Joker is definitely what killed Heath Ledger. This is by far the best villain I've ever seen. The kind you hate to love, the kind you hope to see more of, the kind of villain that keeps you glued to every word of his.
This movie met and exceeded every expectation I had. Take that knowing that I read pretty much every non-spoiler review on th net and I went into this movie having seen it be super hyped up by everyone.
Go see this shite and bring anyone you can with you, except anyone who is even slightly weird because Heath's joker may cause some psychiatric problems in some people. He was that intense.

You really think he just started doing these drugs during TDK? c'mon..
SPOILERS
It's because everyone's not sure whether Dent is dead or not is the reason why I believe he'll be back for the third. They never showed a coffin and they never confirmed his death. We only saw Gordon speaking with Dent's picture in the background. That means nothing.
As for the next co-villain, I believe it will be a sophisticated one similar to Rahs. These comicish ones like poison ivy and catwoman and penguin won't happen in Nolan's world. I don't think the Riddler can but it's a possibility.

SPOILERS
I disagree about Catwoman. I think she is the next logical choice, now that Rachel is out of the way.

I didn't read this whole thread, but is there supposed to be a third one? They didn't make it an obvious cliff hanger like Batman Begins.
Oh, and that movie kicked arse. When I got out I was ready to watch it again. This was the most excited about seeing a movie I had been in a LONG time and it exceeded my expectations.

Possible Spoiler
They could have dropped a small hint to who the next villain will be. I'm having trouble remembering it but in the scene where Alfred asks him if his suit will protect him against dogs and Bale responds with, "And CATS too."

Really? I thought it was even more obvious, to the point that depending on how he does the next movie, one can argue that they are 2 parts of the same movie.
Yes. I am too lazy to find a link, but a number of the medications came from during/past the DK run.
Remember, he didn't die from a OD or some shite, but from rather a lethal mix of drug interactions....if he was on those drugs pre-DK, why didn't he kick it earlier?
Maybe...but it seems like reaching compared to the obviousness of the first "hint."

Why didnt Batman hit him when the jokers standing on the street and batmans on his badass bike?

I have a question. When Batman was charging the joker in the back thing what made him wreck? Was it on purpose? I think I missed something.

exactly. and this movie has already done that with gordon's death. he and batman were the only 2 people that knew he was still alive.

Spoiler
Yeah, that is what I was thinking. That is one of the things that freaked me out about the Joker. He seemed to be totally unconcerned about death. He was just staring at him daring him to run over him.

He swerved to avoid hitting the Joker, lost control, and hit the Semi wreck

SPOILER
Dent faked being Batman to draw the Joker out into the open so that the real Batman could take him down. I assume they needed to fake Gordon's death because a) the joker was going to come after him and/or his family and b) they needed a third person they could trust to execute their plan

spoiler
they had to fake gordon's death for their plan to catch the joker to work. gordon had to be the driver on the transport car because there was no other cop in the unit they could trust.
i dont think dent saying he was batman was part of that though. i think that was just an added bonus to their plan. and dent said he was batman because he thought batman was more important to gotham than he was himself.

Actually, I think it was simultaniously more simple and devious than that....Joker WANTED to die. He doesn't have personal motives, he is fighting for his own cause, one that he is willing to expend his life for.
If Batman kills him, that will cross a line forever, leading to an unstoppable path of destruction of the positive symbol Wayne wanted to create when he made Batman.
This is why Joker was laughing as he fell, because everything he was doing was really geared towards that goal (as well as being a sleight of hand for Dent to do his work), and why he gave the incorruptible line when he was rescued.
Same thing with Harvey Dent...at best he had a 50% chance of surviving, but that was worth it to him to transform a symbol of hope for the city into a murderer.

One thing I can't decide is if Dent knew the real identity of Batman in all that. If he hadn't gave himself up, who would he have said?
