These three episodes are symptomatic of S4 losing it's allure.
it is a bit hokey in spots but i thought the season ended with a bang. i know we can't talk about the last 3 episodes yet but i thought those eps were fantastic.
my favorite line in the last 3 eps: Jack saying "YOU PEOPLE"

Wow. I bet Rogers sat there on deck and tweeted this out right afterwards:
quote:
Rogers going to Cuba has to be treason, no? I get it’s one of his only moves, but like he said, their countries are literally at war with each other.
I didn't think about it being treason but you're probably right. England at this point is probably done with Rodgers. Dude has failed at what he set out to do, in serious debt, and now essentially siding with the enemy. He's in a bad spot.
quote:
Silver delivering Billy to the Underhill plantation is smart, but not allowing them to kill him seems stupid. Those slaves had their family members beaten and killed because of Billy, so now they just get to rough him up a little as retribution? frick all that.
Billy has been so dang frustrating. It sucks because I've always liked his character and I get where he's coming from, but it kind of sucks seeing him as the bad guy/someone you're not rooting for.Being around FLint too long will literally drive you mad.
quote:
Of course Jack is the only person who knows what Rogers truly is and that he will never agree to simply hand over Nassau. I was surprised that Flint was shortsighted on that honestly. But I guess he’s trusting that Eleanor knows her husband, which obviously she doesn’t at all.
Flint has been a little short sighted for a while now and just has war on his mind at all times. Episode 7 he seems to calm down and be back to his normal strategic self. Eleanor never saw that evil twinkle in Rodgers eye like we did when he was telling Berringer the story about killing people one by one. She hadn't seen that side of him.
quote:
Featherstone is really a great character these days.
For sure. One of my favorite lines was last season when he called whatever fancy shirt he was wearing "titty curtains"
quote:
Man that fight at the Barlow house with that soldier and Eleanor/Madi was brutal. Really well done scene IMO and it felt pretty realistic too. Flint and company not ensuring that everyone was dead was a huge mistake. I get chasing after the few that ran off, but the ones left guarding the house should definitely gone and stuck swords into the Spanish soldiers lying around on the ground.
Tough tough scene. Really hated to see her go and pretty shocking really. I would have for thought she was a character that would have made it all the way through. Black Sails has a little Game of Thrones in it in that they are not scared to kill off a main character.
Eleanor swapped sides but I always still liked her character, She be shoppin, but she still was a good boss bitch. And props to her for turning from a hoe to housewife. She didn't deserve to go out like that. And wtf is up with the soldiers just wanting to kill literally everybody. I get you're sacking the city but it's just two random women in a random house, why feel the need to kill them. I would have just busted in and saw them and been like "Umm, o, umm, ok, hands up! Don't move. and show me your tits!" Then moved on.
quote:
I do wish Flint would’ve told Eleanor that it was all Rogers’s fault though. Instead of lying to ease her before she died, he should’ve been like “YES, bitch! Of course it was your fricking husband, you dolt. I told you he was just like the rest of us, but you didn’t want to hear that shite and now here we are. Guess you won’t be shopping anymore at least. Idiot.” But I get why he showed compassion. I guess.
I kind of like the show of compassion when someone is dying side of it. Just give her a little bit of peace. But, yea, also would have been good for her to know her hubby was responsible. I think it's a scene that kind of reels you back into liking Flint/seeing that he actually can be a good dude at times.

Of course not. She's known him for like 3 weeks.

Yeah, rough for sure. And good point...what fun is "rape and pillage" without the rape part.

Oh it was 100% a bit of redemption for Flint's character. Just part of me wishes he would've ripped her a new one as she died. But I suppose he handled it FAR more humanely than most people would've wanted him to.
But all in all, Eleanor was a great character thogh.

S4E7
Jack talking to that girl in Philly. He finally got to realize that his name is known in far places. Good for him.
Mrs. Hudson trying to sneak in Jack into the conversation/trade was sneaky as frick. Not smart enough for Rogers though. And it might get her killed. And her neck is still weirding me out.
Eleanor should’ve just told Rogers that she was pregnant. He maaaay have listened had he known that fact. Maybe not, but it was her best chance to get him to.
Ok the crying corpse is a total WTF moment for me. I don’t remember that at all. Yikes.
I can’t stand Max but she played grandma Guthrie like a fiddle.
Poor Silver. Even Madi’s mother sees her as a sacrifice.
Great scene with Rogers and Madi. He really is a great actor.
I legit don’t remember much outside of a few things in the last few episodes. It’s almost like a first watch for me. Like I forgot all about the “Silver bringing the cache” thing.

Forgot which episode it was but Jack had another awesome line as they met up on the beach: "Change of plans, Spanish invasion, welcome to stay if ya like"

Ep 5
Israel Hands has some balls. Just straight up pimp slapping Silver is kind of a bold move. But he does it with such confidence even Silver is like yea I needed that.
I keep saying it but Rodger's is a badass. That scene with him and the Havana govna was so good. I mean it was a dumb decision, but still a cool scene. The guy that plays the Cuban govna is a pretty good actor. WOuldn't have minded to see more of him.
Billy has been through hell here lately. Brought it upon himself really, but still, been a rough stretch for him. I had/have completely forgotten about Billy's ending. I thought they actually killed him when they had him out in the field, forgot they let him live.
Ep 6
Big surprise here, but what do you know, Max can and will not under any circumstances ever apologize for anything she has ever done. My God. Jack has a lot more patience with her than I would have had I been a bad arse pirate. But alas, I chose a different life.
I love that you unlock Flints shackles and within 10 minutes he's commanding English soldiers
Already touched on it but you have to give Eleanor props. She went out like a champ, chick is a fighter. Kind of a heartbreaking end really. RIP to one of tGOAT boss bitches.
Fun fact: In real life, the Spanish raided Nassau in 1720, during the War of the Quadruple Alliance, with a fleet of 12 ships (3 frigates and 9 brigantines and sloops) and over 1,300 men. Rogers personally led and financed the defense of the island, which ended up bankrupting himself.
Ep 7
Heartbreaking end to Eleanor but imagine finding out the wife you probably feel responsible for killing is pregnant.
Jack had so many good lines in this episode. Him imitating Max's voice about not trusting her had me laughing good. When he's on the boat "f**k it's cold." The very next scene the first thing he says is "I can no longer feel my balls."
Him talking to the young girl at the Guthrie's was pretty great too. He's happy to talk at first but she keeps interrupting him and you can tell he's getting frustrated.
Girl: I heard that Charles Vane cut a mans head off and used it in a stew."
Jack: Stew? For what possible reason?"
Completely forgot it was the long necked alien looking lady that actually asked for Jack and not the Spanish.
Billy biceps come on man. Don't be the rat now.

Yea pretty cool. That's pretty important to him, his name, his legacy. Him putting the girl in check is and the grandma overhearing it probably helped his case in the grandma stopping him.

True.

The single tear drop, dawg. That was eerie. The nightmares/visions people have on this show are legit creepy.

I remember the main parts after this that involve the cache but i had forgotten how it had got there. This essentially is what starts the strife between Silver and Flint that carried over into the book.
I can see people on this board if this show was airing today calling it woke because Silver is with a black girl. There are a handful of people on here that would have their panties in a wad over it. But Silver was actually with a black girl in Treasure Island.

Wait what crying corpse?? shite I guess I missed that.
And to the other response; Billy Bones is in Treasure Island so it's not a spoiler that treasonous snake finds a way to survive.
Yes Jack making fun of Max
"you won't help so did you know zis is zie pirate Jack Rackham, so zou should arrest heem."
Israel served as Blackbeard's right hand man so his badass-ness checks out.
Surprised Govna didn't have ET drawn and quartered. She cost the life of hundreds with her bullshite lie. Women be shopping.
Had no idea the Spanish invasion was real and Woodes did that
I'm actually glad I didn't read up on history before watching at it would have given so much away. I just assumed that was too far fetched to be real.
Did he really keel haul the Spanish governors brother?? Can't believe he didn't torture and kill woodes on the spot.
Silvers story arc was still incredibly well done and believable except for the love interest causing him to lose his way a bit.
I really loved the whole premise of the last 3 episodes.

Definitely forgot to comment on that. But it stood out how almost immediately after getting unchained he was back in charge. Flint is such an awesome character.

That was so great. And he did it for like 30 straight seconds too and just kept going with it while she stood there feeling stupid.

One thing that is tough to do is find gifs from this show. I tried to find one of the Spanish soldier hiding in the shadow before he fought Eleanor/Madi but couldn't even remotely find anything.
But yeah when Rogers is staring at Eleanor's corpse and apologizing, a single tear comes out of her eye. It was terrifying.

It's amazing she is still alive. She is lucky as frick. He must know she's Flint's wife IRL.

Well...

But the scene with Silver and Flint where he's like "All the times I blindly supported you because you said to trust you, you don't have to agree with me now but you will have to back me up" was a great scene.

no freaking way. Man I wish I didn't know that
Flint had a little pull with the show runners because his brother was Berringer. Show was a little family affair, I just saw on the black sails fandom website that the actor and actors playing the Eleanor's grandparents are married in real life.
