Good explanation of the ending
FTR, I think he died.
FTR, I think he died.
quote:
Let's trace what we saw on screen. Batman takes the bomb over the water, it detonates. It detonates in a way that, realistically, leaves you thinking nobody could ever, ever survive that (even appreciating that this is the movies). The long shot of the explosion doesn't leave much obvious doubt there. Common sense suggests that he couldn't get away in time, and thus you get the statue of Batman, people mourning his loss, and the graveyard scene.
Then, we learn that Bruce Wayne applied the oft-talked about autopilot patch to The Bat. And then we get to see Alfred's dream realised, with Bruce alongside Selina in the cafe. A perfect, happy ending.
But is it? Because let's look at it again.
We saw the countdown on the bomb into its final seconds, with Batman still in the cockpit (and we assume, the cockpot of the same craft - there wasn't another version of The Bat with the same sized cockpit tucked away somewhere, was there?). If all is what it seemed, there's no way, surely, he could escape. The blast radius was massive, and unless there's some piece of technology tucked away that we've never seen in Batman's armoury, or unless we missed something, Batman simply couldn't get far enough away in a matter of seconds to escape. No matter what kind of bomb it ultimately was.
I don't recall there being a shot, even from afar, of any kind of ejector device being used (although some online have suggested so). Thus, it seems - and this is all open to interpretation - that it'd be more likely that even if the autopilot was fixed, Batman didn't use it. And off he want to his doom.

saw it last night: Horrible, absolute crap
how does robin know when or which gutter the commish is, considering that the bain pushed the other guy in to find one of the "6 places it leads"?
story of robin knowing bruce is batman..huh.."I saw it in your eyes when you were with some blonde chick"?
some 28 y/o chick on the board of directors and no one knows her past?
how did bane have thousands of people wanting to die for him?
why did bain want to get onto the plane in the first place, he already had the scientist?
The physics behind the 1st plane not acting as a drag similar to a parachute was moronic
Batman had a "logical" explanation behind his "super powers"(intense training, billion-dollar tech enhancements)...catwoman just needed a tight costume?
batcars shooting batplane without causing dmg, but batbike can blow up batcars, and batplane has missles but won't shoot batcars...wtf was that dumbass scene about?
list goes on...shite movie 4/10

Another problem I had with the film was the overwhelming score. There were scenes where I could barely hear what some of the characters were saying because the score was way too loud.

I just put on Batman Begins again...
the first scene when Bruce fights Ra's in the LOS mansion; it looks like there is the black guy from TDKR in this scene (the one that throws blake down the rubble in TDKR trailer). is this the same guy?
I noticed some other characters (like that cop who tells the rookie in TDKR about batman) have continuity also. pretty neat anyway.

He doesn't. We see him take off running a few minutes earlier after his superior decides not to head down into the sewers after Gordon. We don't know if he ran by other outlets before encountering Gordon.
quote:
story of robin knowing bruce is batman..huh.."I saw it in your eyes when you were with some blonde chick"?
He finds out who Batman is earlier in the film after talking with Gordon on the rooftop - everyone knows Bruce became a social recluse, and Blake knew that Gordon knew the identity of Batman, and tried to press him on it by asking him about the night that Dent died.
"Guy takes out a few police units, kills Dent, then dissappears for 8 years, and you don't know who he was?" (the last part was rhetorical...)
To which Gordon replied, "I know exactly who he was. He was the Batman."
quote:
some 28 y/o chick on the board of directors and no one knows her past?
She probably went to great lengths to protect her identity. And the film mentions several times how Bruce no longer "pays attention to the details". She was also the only person on the board that backed the funding for the fusion reactor, earning her bonus points with Wayne and likely lowering any suspicion they may have had for her.
quote:
how did bane have thousands of people wanting to die for him?
They were ex-League operatives. They all wanted the same thing.
quote:
why did bain want to get onto the plane in the first place, he already had the scientist?
He didn't already have the scientist. Pavel elected to work on a different project other than what Bain and the League offered, so to go after him, Bain formulated the plane heist. And, to get on board, he masqueraded as a hostage.
quote:
The physics behind the 1st plane not acting as a drag similar to a parachute was moronic
It probably did. It was apparent, however, that the larger plane was traveling much faster than the smaller plane.
quote:
Batman had a "logical" explanation behind his "super powers"(intense training, billion-dollar tech enhancements)...catwoman just needed a tight costume?
This entire complaint is nullified by the fact that we see Selenna's combat skills without her suit, specifically in the bar, as well as when she made that acrobatic backflip out of Wayne's window. She already had a refined set of skills.
quote:
batcars shooting batplane without causing dmg, but batbike can blow up batcars, and batplane has missles but won't shoot batcars...wtf was that dumbass scene about?
Do we know for a fact that the Bat had missiles? I can't recall a scene where we actually saw it fire missiles. The Tumblers were firing at the Bat without causing damage, but the Bat was also firing at the Tumblers without causing damage. It was only when Bruce redirected the path of one of the missiles that he was able to take out one of the Tumblers. Selenna took out the other Tumbler when she got behind it and hit it with a missile.

You are taking it to serious. Just because Inception had that ending doesn't mean this one had to.

oh you mean like the green energy reactor that can only be converted by one man in the world...but everyone knows the exact millisecond which his one and only Nuclear conversion will degrade and explode.
or do you mean how none of the prisoners thought to use the rope pulley to hoist each other up....or at least to swing to the ledge of death?

He doesn't. The only reason why Blake left the man hole is because Foley wouldn't let him go into the sewer. He left to enter the sewers through another outlet and only happened upon the commissioner by chance. Maybe a little convenient, but this is a movie and such coincidences are going to happen.
quote:
story of robin knowing bruce is batman..huh.."I saw it in your eyes when you were with some blonde chick"?
This story was virtually lifted straight out of the comics. Tim Drake, who would go on to become Robin, discovered Batman's true identity in a similar manner.

This is a pretty big nitpick as similar things happen in films all the time. Just take a look at Matt Damon's character in The Departed for one of numerous examples.
quote:
how did bane have thousands of people wanting to die for him?
I don't know. How do terrorists like Osama Bin Laden have so many people willing to die for them? Because they share a common and radical ideology. They are also all members of the League of Shadows and, as we have seen from Batman Begins, that organization is willing to do ANYTHING to achieve their goals.
quote:
why did bain want to get onto the plane in the first place, he already had the scientist?
This is actually a decent point but I'm willing to overlook such things because it is a film and the filmmakers were introducing us to the main villain of the film. And in a movie this big and ambitious, such lapses in logic are bound to happen at times.
quote:
The physics behind the 1st plane not acting as a drag similar to a parachute was moronic
Once again...this is a movie. I'm not going to nitpick details like the physics between two airplanes.
quote:
Batman had a "logical" explanation behind his "super powers"(intense training, billion-dollar tech enhancements)...catwoman just needed a tight costume?
This is the same way she is in the comics. The exact origin of her skills is not known but that doesn't negate the fact that she has them.
quote:
batcars shooting batplane without causing dmg, but batbike can blow up batcars, and batplane has missles but won't shoot batcars...wtf was that dumbass scene about?
Watch the scene again. You missed the point of that entire chase.

How do you swing on a rope that is attached close to the ground? The rope was used to break the fall of the prisoners if they failed to make the jump. And even if they made the jump, it's very clear from that scene that you're still only halfway there. Hence why they can't make a pulley because the distance is too great to throw a rope up to the entrance to the pit from the ledge.

ut everyone knows the exact millisecond which his one and only Nuclear conversion will degrade and explode.
Dr. Pavel told them it would degrade in 5 months. Additionally, there were actual indicators in the machine representing the degradation rate of the fuel cells.

It's quite apparent with this comment that you're not exactly clear on how a pulley works.

I read your entire post and my only comment is that matt damon's character in the Departed isn't a good example. He wasn't a criminal who became a cop. He was a cop who became a criminal. He had no criminal record at all and the police had no reason not to trust him.

attached above you = swingable
the big asian guy in the pit was holding one end of the rope(implying pulley system)...plus when he got to the top he was holding the rope....just climb the rope

That's not a pulley.
Edit - And given the circular area that they were given, generating the necessary momentum to swing another individual onto the platform would have been extremely difficult.

Lol in my defense, I didn't plan on seeing it back to back.
Originally bought an IMAX ticket for 330, went in at 9 to see DK on IMAX, some friends were there and when they saw me they saved me a seat for the midnight showing.
