I mean, he didn't not look like them. Most was pretty similar besides the mustache and still had some hair that hadn't fallen out. I think they had said they wanted to pay homage a little more to Vlad, so added some touches for that, which I think worked. Cloak was different, but otherwise the core still looked the same.
They made Orlok look more like the description of Dracula in the original novel, rather than giving him a bald head and rat teeth. I also liked the cloak he wore as opposed to the plain black cape Dracula usually wears. Also, having him draw blood from the chest instead of biting his victim's neck was an interesting choice.

Just watched it. It was good, but I agree with the other people that said it drug on at points. Depp, Dafoe, and Skarsgard were fantastic. Also if I didn’t already know Count Orlok was Bill Skarsgard, I would’ve never guessed that was Bill Skarsgard

I read an interview from Egger and he said he wanted Orlok to look like a noble Transylvanian... Almost all men from that time period had a mustache

Movie sucked. It was a cross between a bad community theater play and the 13th gate. Too long. Too many shock/site gags. Jumped all over the place. If you make Willem Dafoe look bad, you did something. Don’t waste your time or money.

I hated it too tbh. It was such a waste of time.

Dafoe seemed B-movie, it was almost hilarious in moments. I can see where there is some unintentional humor. Depps freak out scene, too. She was trying for an Oscar or something it was fricking outlandishly stupid. Should not have been funny in any way

I liked it. Was much more accurate to folklore accounts of vampire encounters. They believe a lot of them were actually sleep paralysis episodes and the people described being held down at the chest (which is the general feeling) and attributed it to blood being sucked from their chest. The neck thing was completely a romanticized addition by Hollywood.

It felt very intentional to me

It was just a rather dark, rather boring, retelling of a movie we’ve seen literally 100 times over. It wasn’t scary, it wasn’t new, it was rehash. I really couldn’t stand it tbh. Pretentious drivel.

I really liked it. Acting was great. Atmosphere was too. Plot choices were not perfect but I enjoyed it. The ending was pretty well spelled out by Dafoe and LRD’s conversation preceding the final act. Had it not been, I could see how the ending felt “rushed”, but I liked the air of inevitability around Orlock and LRD.

Wife and I watched it yesterday morning and we really liked it. I thought the pacing was good, great acting. There were a few scenes with Orlock that made me chuckle, but overall we had fun watching it.

I’ll have to watch it again and give it another shot.

Just saw it with the the wife and critters.
The direction and cinematography are outstanding. Its original over other vampyre tropes. Happy ending? Its classic Horror Noir. Was very impressed

Is this movie more psychological horrorish or gothic erotic thriller?

Just watched this movie. Thought it was really really good. Cinematography was great, acting was great. Depp's daughter did well despite moaning like every 10 minutes. Dafoe great as always. Not sure why they made Orlok have a mustache, but Skarsgard was great too. Love the demonic tone it had. The plot drags a bit and the ending fell flat based on the build up, but overall enjoyed it. 8/10

Eggers has said that every picture and painting of a 19th century Romanian count depicts the person having a mustache. It was a status indicator, and he felt Orlock should have it.

How long into this movie does it take til crazy shite starts happening?
It’s made it’s way to the internet so I’m thinking about throwing it on tonight

I loved it. Dune II is the only better 2024 movie in my opinion. But I think it's close.
The movie does not wink at you like most modern horror. It takes the Dracula story seriously, and so the period dialogue can be overwrought at times. But the movie is downright beautiful, with multiple staggering shots. Eggers smartly takes the "Jaws" approach to Orlock and keeps him lurking and out of focus most of the movie.
My wife does not like gross horror, and she liked it a lot. The gore was around 7/10. Enough to stirr, but nothting approaching gore porn.
