Where does the trailer say they are four dead brothers whose spirits possess the bodies of mutated turtles so they can be reunited with their father and trained?
I'm not trying to be THAT GUY but just accept it's a spoiler and move on. The movie hasn't been released yet and that plot point may be the "twist" of the movie.

Like what others said, it looks very Michael Bay. Do all of his movies / trailers have the slow-motion pauses and that weird robot sound when cutting to those scenes? So annoying and jaded.

The funny thing is the only thing I remember about that game is how I spent what seemed like months trying to figure out how to jump to get the thing at the very end of the last level hes talking about. I mean its a hole you have to jump right? Finally I accidentally walked over it and made it and it pissed me off so much I quit playing. I have no idea what it was, just that you could not advance in the game without it. Gosh it pissed me off so much

That's from a 2011 comic. I gave everyone three years to read it
Either way I don't think the origin story is important. It doesn't matter how they choose to explan it as long as they keep it to an accident imo.

What can I say, I'm a nice guy. I guess I was trying to say that if the original creator wanted to change the origin story a bit 30 years after the fact....I imagine the movie will have some leeway.
I should have known better.....Michael Bay is well known for his story telling.
