City of God is hands down the best movie I've ever seen in my opinion. I was going rant about it not being in the top ten, but to be fair opinions are subjective and they do have it at 15. So I might disagree with some of the placements but you are right the list isn't terrible.

My only favorite on that list is Spirited Away.

The only other films there that I would re-watch: Social Network and Mulholland Drive.

I like this movie but two is ridiculous.

Master and Commander not in the top 10 is also ridiculous.

I've seen and like these movies that are on the list:

94 Minority Report
92 Gladiator
89 Interstellar
87 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
85 Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
81 Black Swan
80 Volver
79 The Tree of Life
76 O Brother, Where Art Thou?
73 Ratatouille
69 Under the Skin
65 Oppenheimer
64 Gone Girl
62 Memento
61 Kill Bill: Vol. 1
58 Uncut Gems
56 Punch-Drunk Love
55 Inception
54 Pan’s Labyrinth
48 The Lives of Others
43 Oldboy
42 The Master
41 Amélie
31 The Departed
29 Arrival
28 The Dark Knight
24 Her
20 The Wolf of Wall Street
19 Zodiac
16 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
15 City of God
13 Children of Men
11 Mad Max: Fury Road
6 No Country for Old Men
3 There Will Be Blood
2 Mulholland Drive

So 36 out of 100.

A handful of others I've seen but just didn't think as highly of. Many that I just have no interest in and a few others that I maybe wouldn't mind checking out at some point.

I change my comment after re-reading the list. Black Panther is the most overrated movie of my lifetime. I mean it was OK for a comic book movie, but not even the best in that particular series or of that phase of Marvel, even.

+1 it's a standard comic book film, just with an all-black cast. The 3rd act has some laughably bad CGI

LOVE both of those movies, but would never in a million years think critics or the likes would put those near the top of a best of list.

Why not? Critics love Tarantino and Scorsese

Yeah at least Get Out did something somewhat creative. Those "issue" movies annoy me not because of the topic, but how they get overrated by pretending that they were the first movie to cover the issue. Call Me by Your Name is a really bad offender, here. That whole movie/trope has been done countless times before and it was the only thing that gave the movie any novelty. Compared to Moonlight, for example, which was awesome on its own.

With Black Panther we have to pretend there was never a black comic book hero before, even though Blade got a trilogy

i don't hate hate it, but there are some ridiculous ones on there as far as ranking in the top 10.

i like get out, but it's not even top 50. moonlight is utter BS.

biggest FU on that list is Interstellar as 89.

other observations:

I've seen 61

No Sicario or Hell or High Water or Wind River is weak

I forget about Children of Men but I think it might be top 10

I don't like Arrival but it's a great movie.

i don't know that it deserves a higher rating, but i also for got how awesome Michael Clayton is.

They put Royal Tenenbaums right by Grand Budapest and those are his only 2.

Yea at one point it would have been pretty high up on my all time list, not just the 21st century. My taste has changed a little after losing some family members and sad movies just don't do it for me as much anymore/I don't really rewatch sad movies these days, but still a near perfect movie.

Actually kind of surprised There Will be Blood is that high. I love that movie so much but it was pretty polarizing.

The Revenant being left off is one of the bigger offenses of the list.

Moonlight is #5? Moonlight?

La La Land is its superior in every way: in craft, composition, and quality.

Such a shame LLL lost to Moonlight.
