Visually and audibly everything I could have hoped for in Dune on the silver screen. Excited to see the third film even though the first two became unwatchable after a few viewings. Quite a few changes from the books that honestly aren't a problem but you turn the Fremen into opposing forces. Southern fundamentalists vs the progressive northern tribes? Really? Completely contrary to the nature of the Fremen and why they had the power to wage, and win, a jihaad on the universe. Chani throwing hissy fits is an unnecessary distraction. Yes I am a Dune fanatic. IMAX here I come in spite of it.

Its too bad that we'll never get a God Emperor movie, because Hollywood doesn't have the balls to release a 3 hour movie that's just Duncan arguing with a sandworm and having aggressive super-sex with Fish Speakers.

Preach my brother. One of the greatest books ever written and easily the best of the real Dune books.

Looked awesome and I’m not a book reader, but that portrays Zendaya as a boss babe and our only hope type character in that. That can’t be serious.

Chani is an important, but minor character in the books. The expansion of her role.is typical politics.

Well if you only take a 1/5 of the post I could see how you would think that. If you read the whole post (and my two before that giving him reasons why to watch the movie), it's pretty easy to see I'm recommending the movie. Zendaya being one of the complaints about the movie....

Then if you're looking for a good movie to watch, I wouldn't worry about waiting, that's a good setup. It's just there are certain scenes, especially with the worms, that are worth seeing on the the big screen. The score is pretty incredible too.

Personally, it's one of my favorite movies from the past 10 years or so. But I was a fan of the book too. It's a very good adaption, despite some people on here's dislike for Zendaya.

This isn't hard to follow. You're upset over literally nothing.

Yeah, I had a problem with that too. And its kind of head-scratching. Why do that? The whole point is that the Fremen were religious fanatics, which allowed the Bene Gesserit to manipulate them, which then allowed someone like Muad'dib to use them to take over the known universe.

Having them split between zealots and secular only served to give Zendaya something else to scowl about.

Funny thing is that my first readthrough of Dune, I hated the 4th book. It was just so strange and totally different from the first 3.

It wasn't until subsequent reads that I realized how profound the book was. God Emperor is the nexus of the Dune Universe. Everything was leading to Leto II reign. Everything after is a result of his Golden Path.

Leto says nothing that isn't of import. But he says it in such an offhand way its easy to miss. People who don't like the 4th book need to go back and read the chapter with Leto and Siona in the desert. Pay attention to what Leto says. Humanity would have been destroyed by that point if Leto hadn't locked everyone down.

Or the screenwriters were trying to rein in the story and create a more palatable drama for your average film going audience. There were a number of ways the filmmakers could've made tighter script and story but Im satisfied wit the results. The move to a more Bene Gesserit focused story and elevating Chani's role had thus far made for a compelling story in its own right.

There are quite a lot of people that believe the ending of 2 is badass (I do agree) and that he is on a hero arc. They greatly misinterpret his speech in the temple

Spoiler alert on the end of Dune 2::

Yes, I understand that we're talking about characters in a novel and movie, but no way I'd ditch MJ for Yelena. But that's me.
