I agree that he’s going to retcon the Jor-El depiction but I don’t agree that his Superman is 100% Superman because he isn’t. He can still become that but in the first movie he’s def not.

People are saying that because it’s successful in the current market. And more overly accepting than MoS. But yes. I even said in the other thread, it’s a huge foreign box office disappointment. That’s undeniable.

Forgot who I talked to but someone even had the idea that the people in the message aren’t even Jor-El and Lara. They’re Zod and Faora-UL. That would he a cool twist

And I don’t mean that to beat on the movie I’m just saying that Gunn isn’t out of the woods to the extent that he can just undo everything and turn it into his typical stuff.

And I think that’s why Gunn was able to do it successfully. In Superman’s mind, he hates his parents. That no one can disagree with. You can do it in the movie while still leaving for speculation. It’s genius.

Some people also forget that Gunn wanted Superman to be the villain in The Suicide Squad. Gunn has his own view of Superman and I believe made him as imperfect as he possibly could without pissing people off. Which isn’t much lol. But he said he didn’t want to make Superman initially. I think he found the perfect balance. He’s Superman, but with more human characteristics. He’s Clark all the time basically.
And people also forget how imperfect Reeves was. I could make a list. He wanted to completely deny his parents and not be Superman. This Superman is not destined to be what he is. It’s not his calling. But he’s desperate to be. To give everything for everyone else. I find that so much better but that’s my opinion.

Will she have the character arc that She-Hulk didn't? Because that bitch didn't learn a damn thing.
I see Gunn as leaning her into some sort of arc, doing the right thing, and then at the very end, congratulating herself by having a drink...and off she goes! Back to where she was before.

Well this isn’t Marvel, so I have faith they’ll have fun but retain the more mature themes that people love about DC

You need both, DC has criminals like Batman and Green Arrow working with the Boy Scout, Superman. He and Batman become best friends but he and Arrow hate each other. Thats how you make them relatable, having human interactions and consequences, not by needlessly nerfing their powers.

I think you’re over the target but he still doesn’t get it. He’s looking in the wrong places to figure it out. Saying he couldn’t write Superman until he figured out how to inject Krypto or that he needed to nerf him means he still doesn’t get it. If you took all the other characters out and had just the core Superman characters in this movie, it would’ve been awful. What’s crazy is if he just made Superman more like Mr. Fantastic he would’ve nailed it.

Captain America and Superman have never been my favorite characters because of their character being essentially superhumanly perfect. But it is the essential nature of what makes them those characters.
So, even if Gunn or other people want to tear them down I think it's just the wrong move.
If you want a different Superman watch stuff with Homelander. If you want a party girl Supergirl then watch the She Hulk series instead
