It's the typical Gunn trope that he can't help himself with. His obnoxious, mostly unfunny nonsense was forced throughout this movie, and it created way too many eye rolling moments for what should've been a better movie than what it is. Turning SG into a drunk shitmutt at the end was obnoxious

What I’d say to that is she’s going to have a character arc. Being a drunk brat and developing into a more mature Supergirl over the next few movies is bound to happen
Gives a lot of runway to develop a dynamic / emotional arc with her and Superman depending on how they do it

I'm not opposed to this, but the lone scene in SM was annoying. Maybe if the movie wasn't littered with annoying dumb bimbos and out of place corny jokes, then this could've felt more authentic. I think I was exhausted with all the Gunn nonsense by this point that it was enough to put it all over the top

I take it from the collective discussion that Supergirl has a comic series where she's an alcoholic. The end of Superman implies the same storyline.
I'm not sure if I would agree with the premise that this makes her relatable but that's possibly the intention

This is obviously her party phase. A perfect Supergirl is boring to me and to Gunn obviously as well. But yeah some people are not going to like it.

If one of the most powerful people on the planet is a drunk it presents obvious problems with respect to their character and behaviors.
It wouldn't make sense for Superman for those same very obvious reasons

In a lot of the more recent runs of Supergirl she starts off as a real problem. Angry and easily manipulated. Even when she starts coming around a bit she is very jealous of her cousin and thinks little of the human race.
And as usual she learns, adapts, and puts it all on the line to redeem herself.

Gunn is adapting the characters to the current climate just like the comics are. We have to embrace it because there won’t be any comic movies without doing that. Movies will never make enough money without doing that.
And people may think they’re perfect like classic Superman or Jorel or whoever, but they’re not. These are imperfect people just like us.

That’s a mistake. Superman is timeless, that’s why he’s an icon. You can have the surrounding characters pose newer ideas around him forcing him to interact with them in that way but if you change Superman he won’t be Superman anymore and the movie will have amounted to a flash in the pan.

Superman you can’t do that. I did say that. Even though Gunn would if he could lol. He changed Jorel and people don’t really care. He may change him back though we’ll see. But this Superman is Superman 100% .

Some are acting like this movie was some earth changing smash hit when in reality it didn’t even reach MOS at the box office even with the advantage of inflation.
