Too many cute characters geared at kids for toys.

This is still technically Lucasfilm. Toys are the #1 priority.

The entire franchise is riding off the awesomeness of 2 movies and a few scenes from Return of the Jedi.

What's it like to hate fun?

I think 8 will be decent because of Rian Johnson. It's Ep 9 that I'm concerned about.

I enjoyed TFA, but you have a valid point.

Other than the Ewoks, the entirety of jedi was awesome, hardly just a few scenes.

Jedi was too cartoonish. Empire was dark and awesome.

Again, other than the ewoks, I don't understand what cartoonish actually means? Yeah, it blatantly was more uplifting as to send off the series with the feeling that everything worked out in the end.
Only other cartoonish element was that stupid song number introduced in the special editions, but I try to ignore that as it was not part of the original film.
Hell, even the Ewoks had their serious moment when that mother Ewok was killed.

Daisy Ridley is fricking amazing and you should really just get over it.
All you prequel defenders sicken me.

Lucas created a pretty awesome fictional universe regardless of whether you don't like certain stories taking place in it.

I can't wholly defend the prequels, but each of them had their moments of greatness.
EP1- Obi-Wan and Liam Neeson were awesome. Darth Maul was too but under-utilized. But Lucas, just like TFA, tried too hard to capture what made ANH so great and his obsession with the pod racing scene was too much a Michael Bay moment. The whole Anakin being a kid and Jesus of the SW universe and Jar Jar just took the painful levels over the top.
EP2- Obi-Wan training Anakin was great, but his hubris and out-of-nowhere resentment of his mentor made little sense. Plus, Padme was like the teacher that seduces an under-aged student. The clunkiness of the dialogue never really bothered me as the jedi were (but again without real backstory) depicted as being like priests that could not or should not even think about sexual relationships. Yoda being a ninja badass was ridiculous.
EP3- Definitely the best of the prequels, but again, the poor set-up in EP2 really hampered Anakin's turn to the darkside. Very little of it made any sense. But that opening sequence, SLJ'S confrontation with Palatine, and even the final battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin was pretty awesome.
In the grand scale, the prequels were pretty bad, but one has to appreciate Palatine ' s scheme and how masterfully it flowed through the three films from being a lowly senator to chancellor to emperor all without anyone really being the wiser was pretty awesome.
But the films really failed to highlight that he was the guiding force behind all of it and they also failed in showing that the jedi ' s hubris as being the moral guardians of the galaxy was their ultimate downfall.
But change a lot of the negatives elements of some of the films: Anakin being a child in EP1, removing Jar Jar or at least toning down the character, etc, etc, and the prequels could have rivaled the OT in many ways.

Hell I contend everything Star wars except the three prequels has been awesome. Including both new movies and the two animated series.

I thought casting idris Elba as Luke sky walker was a good choice

Is that a knock against or for that the battle was pretty awesome?
Technically, Obi-Wan did have the high ground, which is a pretty well known advantage in combat, maybe anakin could have jumped to his side or around him or some shite, but the film had to finish up at that point and by then Anakin had completely lost any sense of reason (plus, it was like the ultimate frick to you to Obi-Wan that he was indeed more powerful than him and knew better than his master), so I don't see the major problem there. Stupid part was Obi-Wan not putting Anakin out of his mercy once the lava started to burn him.
Still wasn't as bad as Vader ' s "nooooooo" once palatine told him that he killed padme.

I think I was in the 3rd grade when RoJ came out and the Ewoks were fricking badass. The toys were fricking badass. Every playground in America became Ewok Village the next week at school. It's too bad some of you don't love America.
All the brooding goth dark lords who like to piss all over my childhood can frick off.
