Another great movie, is an oldie called "Explorers" from 1985.

Three young friends are drawn into a space fantasy adventure. Ben Crandall (Ethan Hawke) is a young visionary who dreams of space travel while watching late-night monster movies, poring over comic books, and playing Galaga in the confines of his bedroom.

One night he has a vivid dream of flying over a space-like circuit board and shares his visions with his best friend Wolfgang (River Phoenix, his first movie), a young scientific genius who is able to translate his dreams into a complex circuit board that actually works.

With the help of their new friend Darren (Jason Presson), they create a homemade spacecraft and embark on a secret adventure to another galaxy where they find that things are not always as different as they seem.

Watch this with your girlfriend, wife, and or kids and I bet everybody will enjoy it, including you. Hard to find goodies like that anymore!

Sex Drive

This movie has got to be one of the most underrated, unknown comedies I have ever seen.

They have two characters Andy and Randy in the movie that just hit on girls the whole time and its hilarious what they say

Few more:

- Primer. Someone mentioned this one, and I'll second it...it's great, and one of the most realistic "sci-fi" movies I've ever seen. It's about a small group of guys who accidentally create a time machine. And I'll second the warning that you have to really pay attention the whole time to follow along with what's happening.

- Frailty. Great movie about a man gone crazy with murder because he feels like God is telling him to do it. It's got Matthew Mcchauughhanhhashney and Bill Paxton in it.

- Suicide Kings. Great semi-dark comedy(ish) movie about a group of friends that kidnap a mob boss to try to come up with ransom for one of them's kidnapped sister. Has Chris Walken, Denis Leary, Jay Mohr, Henry Thomas (Elliott from E.T.) in it. Very good movie.

All three of these are very good movies, and almost nobody I know has ever heard of them before. Also, in that same vein, this movie wasn't really "under the radar" but a lot of people have never seen it or heard of it either:

- The Kingdom. Has Jaime Foxx, Chris Cooper, Jason Bateman, and Jennifer Garner. It's about a group of FBI agents sent into Saudi Arabia into an American compound where a bombing took place to try to piece together what happened. The opening scene of the movie is pretty in-your-face, and the last 20 or 30 minutes of it is literally some of the most intense movie-watching you'll ever experience. It's so fast-paced and will have you on the edge of your seat...and it seems like it never stops. Great, great movie for those who have never seen it.

it's a coming of age drama/comedy. very well done, i really enjoyed it. I didnt even realize, until the closing credits, that Richard Ayoade directed it....for fans of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and the IT crowd

Lot's of good ones on the list so far . . .

"Tell No One"

"The Good Thief"

"Another Earth"

A couple of more:

"This is England" - terrific movie about kids in England and the influence of skinheads and ultranationalism.

"You Can Count on Me" - Mark Ruffalo and Laura Linney as estranged brother and sister who reunite. Amusing and touching.

The movie is pretty great if not infuriating. The characters own insanity gets stuck in your head.

caddyshack 2

Also, Running Scared. Paul Walker is in it and really the only movie he is in that is worth watching. One of the most intense movies I've ever seen. Nuts.

This movie is mostly epic...extremely surreal - seriously, some of the best scenes in a movie I've ever seen.

The directors cut is very long but the whole experience is worth it and thought provoking.

It has that fantasy feel like Amelie...even though it's an entirely different movie.

On a side note, if you are a film history buff, you should check out his short film...Lumière and Company -

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Lumière brothers' first films, filmmakers Sarah Moon and Philippe Poulet challenged 39 renowned international directors to each complete a 52-second film using the original Cinematographe camera under the conditions endured by the brothers. The result of the project was this film, Lumière et Compagnie. The film stock used was homemade from a slightly altered version of the Lumières' recipe. No synchronized sound was allowed and only natural lighting was permitted. The participating directors included John Boorman, Costa-Gavras, Peter Greenaway, Lasse Hallström, Spike Lee, David Lynch, Liv Ullmann, and Wim Wenders.

We watched Cannibal The Musical tonight. I like Parker and Stone a lot and this greatly exceeded my expectations which were not all that high since they made it when college students for around $125,000. The wif loved it.

Another Earth - billed as sci-fi, it's a thought-provoking human drama at redemption. The performance by the lead actress is worth the price of admission. Really good movie.

Thanks for this, watched it tonight, Brit Marling was amazing.

I'll second some of others mentioned in this thread:

Kingdom, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Frailty are awesome

Just remembered two Philip Seymour Hoffman movies on Netflix Instant:

Mary and Max: one of my favorite animated films ever. Lost the Oscar to Up, which is fine, but it was just about as good.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead: superb thriller. Lumet was 83 when he directed, but it's right there with 12 Angry Men and Network.
