I didn't care to see it even though I was a sci-fantasy nerd as a kid because I never appreciated the Tolkien brand of sci-fantasy. I finally saw it a year or two after it came out at a friend's house and was almost immediately WTF? Was hooked for Two Towers and Return of the King and have probably seen all three a hundred times now.
Extreme example of having it wrong.
