This is a plot device that annoys me more than most.

Don’t tell someone who their parent is because it’s too shocking, yet their whole life they are tormented by not knowing

Don’t tell someone some secret key to what is happening in their life to “protect them”

Frozen is a good example: Elsa completely shuts Ana out, makes her a loner, and ruins their childhood relationship because that one time she hit her with the ice? Cmon now

Are you bitching about the plot of a cartoon?

no it was just the example that popped to my mind because my kids watch it all the time

It’s a very common plot device and IMO usually not telling the person whatever the secret is ends up worse for them than if you just told them

What a great example. How exactly was anyone’s life better because Ned kept that secret? I get the initial lie, but why keep it for decades? We all saw how that turned out

Whats even more annoying is when 2 people are having an argument and one person has a very valid explanation for said problem, but wont take 3 seconds to say it. They just pull the whole "No, wait! Ill explain, its not what you think" and then the other person just leaves

I didn’t want to bring up Star Wars because we all know how those threads go

This would be easier if it was a TV question rather than a movie question because I would just say watch a typical episode of Doctor Who..He's famous for keeping secrets to himself for the greater good..

For Movies this is tough...

I'm going to offer Dumbledore withholding the information that Harry's Scar is due to being the Horcrux of Voldermort that required his "death" to defeat the Dark Lord.

I’m guessing you are talking about the element Stark hid in the diorama of EXPO. He explains that he knew that Tony would be the only person with the technology in the future to develop it. That’s not hiding info, that’s storing it until someone with the know-how to use it.

Like when Dr. Strange wouldn't tell Tony Stark the 1 path to victory because then it would fail and wouldn't be the path to victory?
