Movies that MESSED YOU UP as a kid and stayed with you as an adult

1. "Curse Of The Demon" 1958 Dana Andrews
Scared the six previously digested meals out of me...
2. "All Quiet On The Western Front" 1930
Not a movie for kids when I first saw it in the '70's. But now I watch it every year...
3. "The Town That Dreaded Sundown" 1976
4. "Invaders From Mars" 1952
5. "The Birds" (although now it isn't that scary.)

Forgot about:

E R A S E R H E A D !!
That was a straaaaaaaange fricking movie..
And....
"Pink Flamingos" with the Trans who eats dogpoop..

Eraserhead -

The scene when the girl with the mumpy face is dancing on stage and simply giggles while dancing to super weird music.

The Thing, when that frickin guys head pops off and grows spider legs.

The Thing is just a great movie. I bought it one night in college(a few years ago, not old). Doesnt freak me out per se(prob because I wasnt a kid at the time), but very gory, very entertaining to where I can watch it regularly. One of the best science fiction horror movies.

Used to make my mom super mad when she was fussing at us & we'd just say "Yes Mommy Dearest"........then the coat hangers came out.

This thread really brought back some memories. Why don't they make movies like this anymore? Or we're they just good cause we were kids at the time?

There are some crazy movies being made today that would be far scarier than 90 percent of what we've mentioned from our childhood.

Imagine if you were 5 or 6 years old and watched:

"The Strangers"
"Event Horizon"
"The Descent"
"The Mist"
"Room 1402"
"28 Days Later"
"Wold Creek"
"Silence of the Lambs"
"The Pianist"

etc. etc.

The Legend Of Boggy Creek

This was a big one. In the late 60's and early 70's we had those cryptozoology movies like In Search of Bigfoot and Chariots of the Gods... that was creepy enough, but Boggy Creek was too close to home. People in north Louisiana were seeing this thing.

The creature crashing through the bathroom window had us all afraid to take a crap.

IT

The worst was some movie that I saw about 3 minutes of when I was 7 or 8. I fell asleep with the tv on and woke up to some horrific scene with an old black woman brutally killing some teenagers. No idea what it was. Couldn't find the remote so I had to cover my ears and eyes until it was over. I still think about that scene every once in a while. Haunts me

Poltergeist....reason why clowns scare me today

Also..not a horror movie but I saw a movie when I was a kid...name is Fortress. It is about a school that is kidnapped by guys in creepy children's masks. There is a scene where the kids are in the classroom looking over their books and teacher has her back to the window...and the kidnappers are peering into the window with creepy santa masks, one had a duck mask.

Gave me nightmares for weeks

ETA: Please tell me SOMEONE else remembers this movie...again name was Fortress, came out in 1985 and was set in Australia
