Blade Runner

it was good, but also really slow and plodding. if it's your 'best movie ever' youre full of shite.

I've seen Crash once, and only vaguely remember parts of it. Not sure why that would be in my top five.

I thought Slumdog was great, watched it more than once in theaters before it really picked up a buzz.

WTF does that even mean? Because some people like a movie they are a fake _____ ? What? A fake moviegoer? They have fake taste?

people should lighten up about the way other people feel about movies

Milk was a good movie if you block out the homo scenes. I didn't agree with all that nonsense about the gays, but it was a good political movie.

Slumdog was beyond overrated. Sure, it was an ok film with a few good parts, but all of that talk about how it was the best thing ever and winning best picture....it was ridiculous.

I thought milk was pretty good, but I didnt go in with high expectations. It held my attention and I thought Penn was pretty solid.

Of what I've seen mentioned I would say:

Blade Runner: excellent, but I love noir and sci fi.

Slumdog: was waiting for it to fail to meet the hype, but it wasn't far off. Good flick.

English Patient: I disagree with Elaine Benes, good flick, though not quite Oscar caliber

Milk: I'd put it in the 7/10, which is solid for a movie with Penn in it

Crash: terrible

Babel: probably worse, one of the very few movies I stopped watching

I'll take shite for it, but I'll throw 2001 into the mix. Artsy bullshite, no real substance IMO.

I've thought about this topic a little more and here are some more of my picks. I guess this could also be grouped under highly regarded movies that I didn't like

Lost in Translation
Punch Drunk Love
Breaking the Waves
The Beat That My Heart Skipped
Me and You and Everyone We Know
Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead
A History of Violence
Man Bites Dog

and most of all...
The Wackness

Surprisingly, Rachel Getting Married did not even get close to making this list.

This one bored me to death. Again, the only parts I found entertaining were the parts I was probably supposed to be sad or something, but instead I laughed my arse off.

Yeah, I don't really buy the "fake" thing, so I just felt like listing well-regarded movies I didn't like at all.

I don't think anyone is a poseur for liking these films, but Lost in Translation is probably the closest a film has ever gotten me to that line.

While I think it was good, I thought it was a sad year for movies if it was the best picture (which it won).

One of my friends told me that he believed that the only reason it won was because of "White Guilt".

After I thought about it though, I determined it was both.

I liked this movie but I am a big Hoffman fan and a big fan of naked Marissa Tomei.

Brokeback Mountain. Never seen it but it I get the distinct impression everyone says they like this movie just because Heath Ledger died.

Why are you so worried? And you might want to clarify what exactly constitutes a "real" enjoyment of film if you're to ask this question

Shakespeare In Love I fricking HATE that movie.

The only people I know that like it are "film aficionados", which are coincidentally some of the biggest douchebags I know. I don't think they even like it, but just pretend to so they can look cooler (to the film crowd).

I disagree w/ this completely. I don't have a strong opinion on this movie...I mean I think it's a fine movie that shouldn't have been best picture, but this movie EASILY appealed to the masses. I don't think people are fake by liking it, it's just likable. I know a ton of people who like it and don't give a shite about "film aficionados". Nothing special about it, but pretty cut and dry entertainment.

Crash is a good example.

Seeing as how people liked the movie for three years before Ledger died, I doubt your theory is correct
