Why Hollywood would take a movie with the success the original "True Grit" had and remake it is just plain stupid.

because the john Wayne movie while classic sugarcoated the story as told in the novel. The coen movie is a faithful adaptation of the book complete with the much darker and somber ending

there is nothing comical about the rooster cogburn of the book

And you know this because you read the book. Most people don't, and just go see the movie and that is what they base their opinion on.

the coen movie was an adaptation of the book not a remake of the Wayne movie. How is that hard to understand?

Old Henry. This was a really good western.

He is definitely Top 5. Instant classic badass.

The only people who would disagree would be people who unfortunately have not seen the movie, or simply hate westerns.

I disagree about Old Henry. It was a really good movie, but the story does not allow the main character to do much of what one sees in a typical western. For the most part, there is one scene with him having gunfight and they barely show him on a horse. There was very little dialogue with the bad guys.

Again, really good movie . . . but the story just did not permit the character to portray what a typical Western character does.

Audie Murphy beat a gunslinger down with a cowboy hat in one movie. He deserves a spot.

Audi Murphy was not a great actor but his best movie was To Hell and Back. Just not believable in the Western genre.
