Well, what if Earth is wiped out and the key to your species survival is trapped within the son of the person who stole it on another world. He went too far in trying to terraform the planet, but I can see mostly where he's coming from.

Superman is just a dickhead though who hates his job. He seems to not really think anything through when he's being extremely violent, which lead to the needless deaths of thousands. While the Justice League did some good in helping out his perception to the audience, MoS and BvS he's just a self loathing tyrant.
