Anyone watching this on Netflix? On episode 3 of 8 and quite an interesting start. Very good cast with Charlie Hunnam and Rebecca Hall. Some messed up stuff going on in this show!!! No spoilers yet

The internet is freaking out, it is a Ryan Murphy play on the story. The only thing real is people were killed. She was found not guilty. BUT it is entertaining for sure.

Watched the first 4 episodes. It’s really dark to the point where it’s almost too much. Episode 4 is heavy on the rape. The Aileen Wuornos scene at the beginning is a tough watch. The kill scenes are pretty over the top as well, but entertaining.
I thought Dahmer was great but didn’t catch the Menendez Brothers or the Ed Gein one. They’re all under the same “monster” Netflix umbrella. None of them have over 50% on RT so critics don’t really like any of them but it’s mostly because they deviate a lot from the real stories. This one is getting crushed for being completely made up, I don’t really know the real story so it dosent really matter to me.

there's something that just feels remarkably gross about these super commercialized series about real life killers. i watched the first few episodes of the Dahmer one and then again with the Menendez one, ended up bailing on both. didnt bother with the Gein one. i'm not against movies or shows about real life tragic events, but the way these are marketed like they're a fun horror show romp for Halloween just feels exploitative and, as the kids say, it gives me the ick.

It finishes up as her being some big feminist icon (totally false- she was shunned and never did the marching with suffragettes thing), but it is kind of fitting as we now have our modern day killed her family feminist icon in Linsay Clancy.

SPOILERS:
I think it's largely made up, since nobody knows exactly what happened except for Lizzie, and she was acquitted. I could've done without the lesbian storyline as well as the references to Elizabeth Bathory and the Eileen Wuornos subplot, but that's pure Ryan Murphy.
Ella Beatty is very good as Lizzie. The series makes you feel sympathetic to her and portrays her as being driven to murder by her horrific home life. Again, whether or not she endured the kind of abuse that's portrayed in the series is something nobody knows. In this case, it works. I'm a sucker for a sympathetic villain and the series goes all in on this angle for Lizzie.
It's VERY gory, as you would expect in a story about axe murders, but it has some genuine laugh out loud moments. The dinner table scene with the oyster stew is so disgusting it's hilarious, and Rebecca Hall has some funny moments as Lizzie's cruel stepmother. If you go into it not expecting an accurate historical account of the events, it's pretty damn entertaining.

This thing is going to be 8 episodes? We watched the first 4. Figured it had to be almost over. Bored to freaking tears. I don't think I can finish this crap. There were very small rumors back in the day that maybe Lizzie had messed around with the housekeeper, so the last two films/shows go 100% bull dyke with the crap. This show is stupid.
And how about the dyke housemaid with the purple and orange hair like all the freaks have today? I'm sure that was a big look in freaking 1892. Good grief I had Hollywood. They made the stepmom kill the birds. Why? The dad killed the birds. What difference does that really make. They didn't need any more reason to convince us of Lizzie's hatred of the step mom. Dumb.

I really enjoyed it. I also spent a lot of it thinking how much Ella Beatty looks like Annette Bening and Shirley McClain :)

I think you answered your own question. They made Abby kills the doves to give Lizzie that much more of a reason to murder her. If you recall (or maybe you haven't gotten there yet), Lizzie feels genuine guilt and remorse for killing her father but she absolutely hated her stepmother.
I agree 100% about the lesbian affair and the maid with the crazy colored hair. That's 100% Ryan Murphy. I don't think there was ever any evidence to suggest that Bridget helped Lizzie murder her parents, or was in any way involved, but the past couple of versions of the story included this plot point, so I guess Ryan Murphy decided to run with it too.

That's what I'm saying, she already hated stepmom. She would have had more reason for killing dad if it was he that killed the birds, which is what actually happened.
I won't spoil if they haven't gotten that far yet, but if she did do it, she was either very smart in how she went about killing them or just lucky. This has to do with her life after the trials.
