Saw it tonight. First act was good. The last 2/3 was not great and pretty disappointing. It went on too long too. The aliens were dumb and I just didn’t care what happened to anyone.

What a shame. The trailers looked great.

The character read a lot more Elon than trump to me, but obviously a lot of trump in there along with a mix of maybe Ted Cruz

I think the bit worked early on, but was overexposed. Felt like there’s a cut of this movie that has Steve Yuen as the big bad of the movie and the whole duplicates plot, then another cut that is more focused on the love triangle/square that develops. And then another cut that’s a lot more Sci-fi and focused on the creepers, which I think they did a lot of good stuff with. And then there’s a mini movie at the start that goes over Mickey 1-16. Instead we get all that stuff at once annd all that gets steamrolled a bit with the Ruffalo/Collette combo in the final act, probably to be able to set up a more exciting climax. This movie was baked in the oven for a long long time and I think it shows. The false /twist ending feels very out of place for the tone of the movie

Certain plots/characterizations just sort of come and go for long periods of time, like the other girl involved with the Mickeys, and Steve Yuen. Leads to some odd areas where a dramatic or call back delivery isn’t really earned because the set up was likely cut or changed.

That being said I think it was a funny movie that did a lot of interesting things and had some fun ideas. I liked the creepers were given intelligence in a way that made them sympathetic but not just some mindless harmless creatures. They had motive, strategy, and a moral code without it being humans^2

Liked Pattinson, Ruffalo was pretty bad. Felt like some characters disappeared and would randomly pop up again. Forgot about Yuens character for a bit.

6/10.

I give it a low B rating.
For the most part enjoyed the first 2/3 of the movie. Cool to see Mickey’s backstory and 1-16’s time. Leaves a little to be desired without knowing much about the support characters (Nasha, Kai, and the scientist girl) backstory/origins. I liked Rufffalo’s character (I got bit more of a televangelist feel from him but did try a bit too hard to lean into the Trump vibes) although over the top. Nasha‘s dialogue when confronting Ruffalo’s character could have been better written in my opinion. Tone/pacing were a bit off. Still a cool story and great visuals. Enjoyed Pattinson’s performance.

I watched this yesterday. Unfortunately, this one didn't work for me. I was kind of bored. And Ruffalo was just a really bad character.

Typical Robert Pattinson movie. Fantastic acting and terrible movie. Ruffalo's character was lazy writing. It started great and just plummeted quickly midway through

I didn’t even get Trump vibes. I got much more Kenneth Copeland or some creepy televangelist vibes if anything.

But now that it’s been brought up and the more I think about it, the most Trump-coded aspects of his performance aren’t the parts that make Trump or Ruffalo’s character unlikable. The over the top reality TV Trump, amusing and even charismatic in his own unique way.

Ruffalo admitted his character is Trump on Jimmy Fallon.
he can “admit” this all he wants but that character was nothing like Trump. If he was going for that he failed.

Saw it. As others have indicated, Robert Pattinson was fantastic, but I feel like there’s a more focused version of this story lying on the cutting room floor. That potential story may have been a better sci-fi movie by definition, but frankly I’ve seen plenty of children’s tv shows that explore the “uh oh, I’ve made too many multiples of myself and they’re getting out-of-hand” plotline and don’t think it would have been very interesting here. What you end up with was somewhat scattered in tone and felt a lot like “hitchhikers guide to the galaxy” (or at least my annoying memory of that movie). All that said, I think each of the individual concepts were pretty well-executed with the limited timeframe they ended up having. Mickey 18, love triangle, the aliens, the caricature president, the former friend and the loan shark, even “sauce” (?) were each pretty entertaining concepts in their own right, even if they were picked up and dropped frenetically. Won’t be re-watching at home but worth the trip to the theatre. B+.

It was ok. Different for sure. Kept me entertained. It could have been 20 minutes shorter. Mickey 18 sounded like his Batman character and all the rest he had that funny nasal voice.

Just walked out, this was completely mid. I feel like it wouldn’t have had near the hype of Bong Joon Ho wasn’t attached to it
