I have. There weren't DIRECT witnesses - His followers went to dress the body and found the tomb empty. (The guards took a bribe from Pilate to lie, so we don't have an account of the stone being rolled away and Jesus emerging.)

And don’t forget it was 40-50 years before anything was put on paper. It was all oral accounts passed down by generations.

Yet people quote every single word as the gospel

I'm well aware - all of that was after the resurrection, not the resurrection itself.

Are you wanting a witness to see his spirit ascending through the soil? If so, that’s not as important as recognizing the fact he was resurrected. Mary Magdelene saw it when she entered the tomb and started weeping. The disciples traveling to Ephesus, the apostles in the upper room, later it was Thomas. Hundreds saw him for weeks after he was crucified, until they watched him ascend into heaven (The Ascension), only to then watch the Holy Spirit descend shortly after (Pentecost) as he promised.

The witness was so strong and resolute that all the apostles, aside from John, were murdered/martyred in terrible ways rather than deny their faith in.Christ.

Yes, the 2 ton stone was rolled away. His shroud was also found.

I won’t watch it, but the church folks will turn out for this whether it’s any good or not.

I’m not sure that Mel is emblematic of anything so transformative…

That’s not Mel Gibson, it’s a fan account.

Yeah he said he’s going to explore the origin of Satan. The fall of angels. Who knows what that will entail.

Mel is not one to shy away...unlike many modern Pastors who avoid preaching about Hell or soften it for "prosperity worshippers".

"
quote:

It's more than a single event. It's an amazing event and to underpin that with the things around it is really the story," the Academy Award winning director said. "To enlighten what that means. It's not just about the event; it's not some kind of chronological telling of just that event. That could be boring; you'd think, 'Oh, well, we read that [in the Bible].'"

Gibson agreed, but said telling the events in a simple chronological order would be "predictable." And predictability is an enemy of any film.

"They [the enemies] are in another realm," Gibson said, smiling through his bushy beard. "Sure, you're going all over the place. What happened in three days?"

This isn't true. The events surrounding the crucifixion took place between the year 30 and the year 33. Paul started writing his letters sometime around the year 50. His letter to the Corinthians, dated about the year 53, shows that the tradition of Christ's death and resurrection went back aways.

"For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve."

So Paul is letting us know, roughly 20 years after the event, that he passed down to the Corinthians what had been passed to him. We know that Paul's conversion happened about three years after Christ's crucifixion so this belief in Jesus's resurrection goes back to at least three years after that first Good Friday.

You show the Apostles hiding in fear for their very lives in the aftermath of Christ's crucifixion. You have them showing doubts about the man they followed for three years now that he has been executed like a common criminal. And then, on that first Easter morning, everything changes and a movement begins that goes on to change the entire world forever.
Well put.

There's a lot of talk about the political shift that's coming or has come I don't think that's what's important it's the cultural shift

A lot of people say politics is downstream of culture.

By contrast, the Passion was only a few hours.
