I was too young for the original run but He Man toys and the show in syndication were still going strong.
Also had a VHS of the first movie that got worn the frick out. Tried giving that a re-watch recently and other than Langela as Skeletor, it hasn't aged well.

But it's certainly not getting another movie. It would probably go down as the biggest financial flop of the year
again, we may be judging the results from a dated lense.
If a streaming service spends 100-200mil on a streaming exclusive movie that gets good reviews, we consider it a success. The revenue model is just different now and pure box office numbers aren't the be all
5-10 years ago and it opened to these numbers, yeah I'd say it's dead like the Power Ranger reboot....but Amazon seems overall encouraged so I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a sequel.

He-Man wasn't my thing as a kid, I was a Ninja Turtles kid, but I probably would have seen this in theatres if the trailer wasn't so bad. I love going to the theatre but I just couldn't bring myself to go with how cheesy it looked. Will definitely watch on streaming though.
I have a buddy who compared Jared Leto's Skeletor to Frisky Dingo's Killface, which is high praise for me. Ironically, another incredibly underrated show that didn't get a third season because of viewership but now has a cult following.
It really does deserve to be seen on the big screen. It's big, bright, colorful, and loud. It's a cartoon come to life, which is exactly what it should be. Travis Knight has a strong love for the source material and you can tell. He didn't try to ground the characters in reality. The characters' silly names like He-Man, Ram Man, Mekaneck, Trap Jaw, Fisto, etc. are all names that Adam created for them as a child. You never know their real names, except for Duncan (Man-at-Arms) and Teela.
As much hate as Jared Leto gets, I thought he nailed Skeletor. He had an impeccable British accent, and instilled just enough humor to keep the character true to his cartoon persona. I thought he maintained a nice balance of menace and fun, while never crossing the line to make the character campy. The scene where Skeleton infiltrates Adam's mind to torment him with images of insecurity were very funny. Rumor is that Jared Leto was not happy that he had about 15 minutes of screen time cut for the final version. It apparently showed that Skeletor is really King Randor's older brother, Prince Keldor, which would help explain why he covets the throne of Eternia so badly. As a fan of the old cartoon series, I'd have liked to see that.

I saw a tweet that Travis said there is a 3 hour cut out there. Maybe we'll get that with the 4k release

TRAVIS KNIGHT: “There’s a lot of stuff that we had to excise to get the film into the shape it is now; a lot of stuff that I truly, deeply loved. There are giant scenes in the movie that aren’t there any longer. I am very proud of the movie, but there are definitely things that I love that we had to cut. Hopefully, they will get to see the light of day at some point.”

So why does the board fight tooth and nail to make sure everyone on here knows what a complete utter failure Mandalorian and Grogu is despite it being a similar budget to MOTU but probably making 200 million more at the box office? Is it not going to hit streaming and have some success there? I guess a Star Wars movie is going to sell less merchandise than He-Man? I have no desire to see that movie and won't even watch it on streaming but it's kind of funny the double standard.
Star Wars bombs: Omg this is the end of Disney and Star Wars is dead.
He-Man bombs: You know we are really just looking at this through the wrong lense.
Also, there have been very few big budget streaming exclusives in the 150-200 million range and virtually none of them are considered a financial success. Killers of the Flower Moon won awards and wasn't a huge bomb, but it also had a theatrical run. The other huge big budgets streaming movies either had a theatre run as well or pretty much weren't considered a success (Argylle, Back in Action, Red Notice, The Electric State).

I mean, virtually every studio, especially Amazon, comes out and talks about the movie being a success despite bad numbers. I mean they are still trying to get people in theatres.
If it was good I hope it gets a sequel, but just from an unbiased view, it doesn't look like it will even come remotely close to getting one. 11 years later and I'm still holding out hope for a Man From UNCLE sequel

I might see if I can find time one evening this week to see it on the big screen but really been looking forward to Disclosure Day this coming up weekend.

Mandalorian toys are done, baby yoda sold well 5 years ago but who is buying them now?
MotU / Mattel has always been a toy brand
Toy Federation has a resale store with a YouTube channel and says that Disney era stuff doesn’t sell in his store

Was going to wait until it goes to streaming, but might have to hit the theater for this one before it does.
Side note, Nicholas Galitzine is underrated in his peer group as an actor. Thought he held his own with Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You and with Julianne Moore in Mary & George. I'd love to see this springboard him into other stuff.

We're going to catch the IMAX tomorrow night before it leaves.
Did you see Sheep Detectives? We watched it right before this movie and I didn't even realize it was him. He's very good

I don't know, you'd have to ask the folks actually arguing that, I'm not.

Skeketor harassing He-man on earth was about the only humor in the movie that actually worked for me., actually very funny.
I'm surprised it hasn't come up, or maybe it has, the interpretation that Eternia is indeed just Earth Adam"s imagination.
He basically leads an unfilling, unexciting, unmasculine life and dreams of being this being strong impressive hero having grand adventures.
This is symbolic of exactly what all the boys playing with he-man toys were doing.

I think that theory is fun to think about but I don’t think that was the intent at all. It isn’t in the lore and they show them traveling between galaxies by folding spacetime

I feel like the movie should have ended with a PSA like
The cartoons.
The cartoons.
