Massacre of the Mormons (MAX, maybe some spoilers)

Anyone seen this yet? Finished ep 2 last night and im getting increasingly pissed off at the parents of these poor kids. These Mormons basically moved out to rural Mexico so they could practice polygamy away from the US since it was/is illegal, while still reaping the benefits of being US citizens. A bunch of the women and children drive to a wedding 5 hours away and they turn up massacred along a deserted dirt road in the middle of nowhere.
Why were the women and children traveling solo in Mexico on a desert dirt road with no cell phone reception?
Lots of unanswered questions halfway through this 4 part mini series but its been pretty good thus far.
Anyone else see this yet?

Watched it over the weekend.
Did they practice Polygamy? I don't remember them touching on it too much, and it seemed like those families were monogamous.
It seemed like when they first moved there decades ago, it wasn't all that dangerous. Just pot operations. Then cartels started running the area dealing with hardcore drugs. Either way, they should have gotten out of there when it became obvious that it wasn't safe anymore.

One of the women that got killed was one of the guy's second wives. He had 8 kids with one wife and 13 with the other.

If this is the story I am thinking of I think they had some issues with their land and basically thought the cartel wouldn't touch them.
Not Mormons, but t's crazy seeing all of the Mennonites in Chihuahua. There's a huge gas station about 30-45 minutes outside of Ciudad Chihuahua where the only other white people there besides me were Mennonites. Lots of religious minorities in northern Mexico to live alone or do things that are frowned upon in the US, like polygamy. Typically they are left alone if they stay in their lane.
I'm for sure going to check this out.

You’ll get most of your questions answered by the end, except for why they allowed their wife & children to travel alone.
Very sad

Southern Utah and Northern Arizona are full of FLDS cultists.

it was a well known route they had taken for years. just so happens this time, there was a cartel war going on.

seems like they had been getting into it with the cartel for a while and it wasnt a new occurrence as they killed and kidnapped people from the family in the past
