Not only that, he would have to know where Erin was, be in contact with her, and her actually agreeing to meet a 13 year old at 2 am, for what, to talk to him. Makes no sense.

and we know it was a bike able distance

I don't know all the little specifics, but everything points to a family trying to protect the kid to me

- shown violent tendencies
- came into the room and was asking questions about the case
- knew about his Dad's affair
- has a "secret" with his Dad
- Lori couldn't tell John was cheating this time (meaning he wasn't cheating and their secret is something else)
- John was obviously coaching Billy into that "admission"
- telling Lori that Mare couldn't know about anything and then Lori immediately telling Mare about Billy (meaning the plan was to pin it on Billy and not their son)

Then how did Ryan know where Erin was at?

I think Erin called Lori and she was the one who hid the gun in the tackle box. John might have known it was Lori. That is what he meant about protecting our family.

I personally wouldn't classify him beating the crap out of some POS bully for throwing things at his mentally disabled sister as person prone to acts of violence! unbelievable how many people are killing him and making him out as a violent individual for this.

Just watched the scene again with John trying to get Billy to confess. Billy is not the killer. I’m betting he was incapacitated that night by a knockout drug or just drunk and someone smeared blood on him. He doesn’t look like he remembers what happened and is confessing because he thinks he may have done it. The fact the chief needs to get a hold of Mare ASAP proves it. She just told the chief it was Billy. If it was him in the picture why would he need to call her. It’s got to be John. Or someone hired by John. Btw, Dylan is left handed. He threatens Jess with the gun holding it in his left hand. But neither the gun he’s holding nor the one in the tackle box are a revolver.
