This is probably the #1 "it sucks there is only 1 season" TV shows of all time.

No shite. Why would anyone start this? I just went through this with Manifest.

Surface has to be right up there for me as far as a one season and then DOAH!

I think this and terriers were the two shows that bummed me out the most when they were canceled after one season.

This show was incredibly compelling, intense and smartly written and acted. It pissed me off when it did not get a second season.

Same goes for American Gothic back in the late 90s.

The thing about this show isn't just that it only lasted 1 season. It was basically scrapped from the Earth for a decade.

The Amazon reviews for the DVD that doesn't exist are awesome

quote:

As you are well aware, there is no DVD release available unless you want to pay a fortune for a second hand copy when one comes along. But this wonderful series (all 13 eps) is still available online if you know where to look, and that is how I managed to download the whole lot for zilch. And as another reviewer pointed out, it's even better when you re-watch it. No feelings of guilt here as I have read AMC could not even be bothered to respond to anyone asking them where they could find a copy, or about re-releasing Rubicon.

quote:

Do you not find it strange that Rubicon, a critically acclaimed show with a devoted fan base,
was unceremoniously cancelled, is never in repeats, has not been syndicated,
is not available for streaming on Amazon, and has not in seven years been released
on DVD? I mean even 'My Mother the Car', which critics voted worst TV show ever, has a
DVD for the entire series. The reason for Rubicon's complete global unavailability
is nothing but mysterious and thought provoking. Someone does not want this series
ever to see the light of day again.

quote:

What a great show this was, with so much unrealized potential. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that this is re-listed on-demand with Comcast. You can see episodes 1-13 if you pay for AMC Premiere (Ad-free), but there's no purchase option. For the regular no-charge viewing, there are just three episodes up right now. It's been so frustrating to have no way to buy these, and now it seems like they've brought it back just to taunt people once again. Ideally, I'd like to see the show return, but if they would at least release what there is on DVD/Blu-ray then I'd be in for that...

quote:

This series obviously "cut too close to the quick", so to speak. "Rubicon" must really have plucked a raw nerve with the Insider shadow-government because even though the series was acclaimed and had gathered a significant audience, the series was abruptly cancelled -- and now you can't buy a DVD of it at Amazon, or even pay to watch it on Amazon's streaming service. Evidently, those who run and control everything, and rule over us all, became aware of this series and decided it was too dangerous to be made available to us in the unwashed lower classes that make up the American "rat-herd".

here is a 1-star review:

quote:

Rubicon was, other than Mad Men, the only program on the vast wasteland of television that I looked forward to weekly, and by golly AMC pulled an HBO and murdered it. While I applaud the writers and actors for their fine work, they get a *pittance on aftersales.

Don't reward AMC by preordering the single season.

Just don't.

If you reward them, they continue to screw the writers and creators.

Good point. I've tried finding it to show it to my wife a few times over the years, and it's been impossible to get.

Deep look inside the CIA and the shadow games they play. It was mentioned in those reviews and I agree, they got too close for somebody's comfort and the show was cancelled and banished from existence. I watched every episode when it first ran, it was pretty dang good.

not shocking b/c it was unceremoniously cancelled after 1 season and then hidden from the world

quote:

what's the synopsis of it?

guy working at an intelligence agency figures out (and then has to prove) a big conspiracy

it's very methodical and slow and detailed with some really good characters and actors.

Another show that doesn’t exist on any platform is Ed from nbc. I think it’s due to musical rights, and them never being able to reach an agreement with the artists used for a dvd release, and it’s a damn shame. I’d love to rewatch it, and the torrents out there are really hard to scrap together.

Does this show have a good ending after Season 1? Or is it a cliffhanger with a lot of unanswered questions?

I watched it when it came out and remember liking it, but I don't remember any of the details. I think it was a show I watched on the DVR, drunk, after the wife would fall asleep.

If I remember, it has an ending but obviously the whole overlaying plot wasn't wrapped up and was just starting

Have been trying to find this to watch with my wife who never saw it. Such a bummer that it can’t be found.

It’s definitely due to music rights. They even had to change the intro theme song from Next Year during the initial run because I guess Foo Fighters backed out of their deal

Hopefully this gets figured out some day like Wonder Years finally did, but this show doesn’t have the fan base and backing that WY did unfortunately.

Glad I checked in on this thread, Rubicon sounds great and will add to the queue
