Josh Johnson will anchor the Comedy Central late-night show’s Tuesday through Thursday editions this week, marking his first time in the host’s chair. Jon Stewart will have his usual spot Monday night.

Johnson has been a Daily Show correspondent for about a year and a half, but his time on the show goes back further. He joined the show’s writing staff in 2017 after a stint at NBC’s Tonight Show.

In addition to his work on The Daily Show, Johnson is also a stand-up comedian with two specials to his name: 2021’s #(Hashtag), which premiered on Comedy Central, and 2023’s Up Here Killing Myself for Peacock. He’s also appeared on Netflix’s Comedy Lineup, The Tonight Show and CBS’ Late Show.

He’s also four-time Emmy nominee as part of The Daily Show’s writing staff. This year, the show and two related programs (a Klepper-hosted special and the YouTube series Desi Lydic Foxsplains) are up for a combined 12 Emmys, the most nominations in the show’s history.

This show is still on? Don't think I have watched it since Jon Stewart first round on the show. Must have been at least 10 years since I have seen it.

I haven’t watched it since Stewart either. Strictly interested in the success of a Louisiana native.

Bill Simmons thinks Stewart may legit resign on air tonight after the Colbert firing.

That's the very definition of living in a Hollywood bubble, folks.

He’s been one of the writers coming up with their garbage? Yeah, it’s a No for me.

Edit: I confused him with Jerod Carmichael.

Can't speak to the show, but some of his standup bits are really funny.

First on LateNighter: Longtime Daily Show writer-turned-correspondent Josh Johnson made a splash in his hosting debut Tuesday, outdrawing each of the show’s other rotating hosts—and Jon Stewart—among viewers in the coveted 18–49 demo.

Per Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, Johnson’s first night behind the Daily Show desk drew 590,000 total viewers, making it the most-watched non-Stewart-hosted episode of the year by total audience. But the real story was in the demo, where Johnson pulled in 226,000 viewers aged 18–49, surpassing even Stewart’s top-rated episodes in the advertiser-coveted category.

Further, Johnson’s Daily Show outranked each of the late-night shows we track among younger viewers Tuesday night. It’s also the best demo performance for The Daily Show since September 10, 2024, when Stewart anchored a live post-debate episode following the Trump–Harris showdown.

Expect Johnson’s numbers to climb even higher once delayed-viewing data is factored in over the coming days and weeks.

The guy is good. Fantastic stand up presentation. So far on the Daily Show he’s smooth as hell.
